All emails sent to our pager addresses as defined in the /etc/mail/aliases file (blackberry.net and att.net) are on a 6 minute delay.
Mailertables should fix this by specifying which smtp server to use for specified domains so I created that file, pointing our 2 pager domains to our organizational mailservers. I tried to enable mailertables via the below methods and it just didn’t work. Is there known good way to enable mailertables on Solaris? Any ideas on how to fix these delays?
– create /etc/mail/mailertable with att.net and blackberr.net entries (pager domains to date).
Run makemap hash /etc/mail/mailertable < /etc/mail/mailertable
Building the new sendmail.cf
1. Edit /etc/sendmail/cf/cf/sendmail.mc and add line
FEATURE(access_db, `hash -o -T /etc/mail/access’) FEATURE(mailertable, `hash -o /etc/mail/mailertable’)
NOTE: some online notes state that the “hash” option may not work on Solaris but others do. Will try with
above syntax first.
2. Compile sendmail. m4 /etc/mail/cf/cf/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf.
3. sdiff new sendmail.cf with timestamped one from today and edit accordingly.
4. Restart Sendmail, tail log, run svcs -xv sendmail, check for errors.
5. Send test emails to internal and external (pager) domains.

chgrp: changing group of `’: Invalid argument
This happens on all NFS mounted disks on client machines.
We use AD (not my call) for authentication and it also provides groups.
We have a NFS server running Scientific Linux 6.3 which mounts SAN devices on FC connect. These are then exported via NFS. Clients are all CentOS 6.4.
The clients hard mounts the user’s home disk with intr,sync and various tuning options. The other disks use autofs.
AD is configured so that each user has a matching UID and GID, essentially making them the exclusive member of their own group. Not useful for sharing files unless you don’t mind making all your files accessibly by world, o+.
We need groups so that we can add members who are then able to chgrp what ever files they’d like to share with members of the same group. All seems pretty straight forward so far.
I used to run OpenLDAP with Kerberos to do all this, I had LDAP manage autofs and groups. Everything worked perfectly.
But now I cannot chgrp.
The permissions of the exported directories on the NFS server are:
drwx–x–x root root /san/home
drwxrwxrwx root root /san/otherdisks
But under home each user directory is owned by the user:
drwx–x–x user1 user1 /san/home/user1
NOTE: “other” means machines within same organization using same AD but built by other departments, “this” means the machines I built.
In the following scenarios it fails:
1. As AD user on “this” client machine on own home on “this” NFS server.
2. As AD user on “this” client machine on automounted disk on “this” NFS server.
3. As root on “this” client machine on automounted disk on “this” NFS server.
In the following scenarios it works:
1. As AD user on “this” client on local partitions where permissions allow.
2. As AD user logged in directly on “this” NFS server on any partition where permissions allow, including on SAN disks.
3. As root on “this” file server on any partition.
4. As AD user on “other” clients on export from “this” NFS server.
5. As AD user on “other” clients on export from “other” NFS server.
6. As AD user on “this” client on export from “other” NFS server.
This issue shows itself when I extract TAR files whilst on client machines to NFS exported shares as AD user or root, can’t chgrp!
I can do everything else, I can create, delete, even do newgrp and change my default group then create new files belonging to me with GID of new group. But still can’t chgrp

As a POWER architecture hardware vendor, we’ve definitely run into quite a few wish-list items for software we want to have on our platform. Whether it’s for customers or just to have a feature complete set of packages in everyday distributions, we want to see things build everywhere, and run just as well as the x86 counterparts.
Starting soon, we are kicking off a PowerUp (my cool label) initiative in order to direct POWER developers toward software that needs a little love on our POWER platforms. Software targets range from the completely unsupported (e.g. Google’s v8 Javascript engine, D Languages’s phobos) to optimizing specifically for POWER (e.g. OpenJDK).
To collect these initiatives together, we will be starting a new PowerUp portal. For now, we have begun a GitHub Team where we have forked relevant repositories. Forums for discussion and participation will also follow. Feel free to clone and hack away. Email me if you have any questions (or wait until the forums and portal open).
NOTE: PowerUp is just my initial name. That may or may not change.
I’ll update this blog post when more information is available.

Recipients from across the country will visit the White House to receive Presidential award for exemplary service to their fellow citizens
WASHINGTON, DC – On February 15, 2013, President Obama will welcome to the White House the recipients of the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.
“It is my distinguished honor to award these individuals the 2012 Citizens Medal for their commitment to public service,” said President Obama. “Their selflessness and courage inspire us all to look for opportunities to better serve our communities and our country.”
This event will be open press and begin at 10:45AM ET. Members of the media who wish to cover this event must send NAME, MEDIA OUTLET, PHONE AND EMAIL for each person planning to cover the event to media_affairs@who.eop.gov by Wednesday, February 13th at 5:00 PM ET. If we are able to accommodate your request for credentials, we will send a confirmation with further instructions and logistical details after the RSVP deadline passes.
NOTE: Members of the media who do not have a White House hard pass must also submit their full name (including middle name), date of birth, Social Security number, gender, country of birth, country of citizenship and current city and state of residence.
The Citizens Medal was established in 1969 to recognize American citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens. President Obama is recognizing Americans whose work has had a significant impact on their communities but may not have garnered national attention. The President called on members of the public to nominate people in their lives who have performed exemplary deeds of service outside of their regular jobs, including individuals:
Who have a demonstrated commitment to service in their own community or in communities farther from home. Someone who has engaged in activities that have had an impact in their local community, on a community or communities elsewhere in the United States, or on fellow citizens living or stationed around the world.
Who have helped their country or their fellow citizens through one or more extraordinary acts. Individuals who have demonstrated notable skill and grace, selflessly placed themselves in harm’s way, taken unusual risks or steps to protect others, made extraordinary efforts to further a national goal, or otherwise conducted themselves admirably when faced with unusually challenging circumstances.
Whose service relates to a long-term or persistent problem. Individuals who have made efforts to combat stubbornly persistent problems that impact entire communities; for example, those who have taken innovative steps to address hunger, homelessness, the dropout crisis, lack of access to health care, and other issues that plague too many Americans.
Whose service has had a sustained impact on others’ lives and provided inspiration for others to serve. The ideal nominee for a Citizens Medal is a person whose work has had a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of others.
For more information on the President’s Citizens Medal and to nominate someone for the 2013 Citizens Medal, visit www.whitehouse.gov/citizensmedal.

(Apologies for any typos at all.)
This is a step by step _script_ to check if your Arduino is talking to your Linux or Macbook Pro computer using the Terminal…
It works on at least 3 Linux flavours and now the Macbook Pro…
I hope you find it useful as a simple check for your Arduino setup…
This is issued as Public Domain.
The “Test.pde” is the code to program the Arduino with.
My Arduino programming SW is old and I am aware that the “Test.pde” script will not compile on current Arduino programming SW. I am assuming you will know what to do with it…
A basic, terminal, test sequence to check that the Arduino Diecimila board is _talking_ to your computer.
Step by step testing inside a Linux , OR, Macbook Pro Terminal usage for the USB Arduino Diecimila Board...
Issued as completely Public Domain by B.Walker, G0LCU, 2011-2013.
Common to both systems:-
------------------------
1) Boot up to your Linux flavour or Macbook Pro as root, (or run in a root Terminal).
2) Temporarily disable any net access or use a stand-alone machine.
3) Plug in the USB Arduino board.
4) Open up a, (root), Terminal and clear the screen.
5) clear
Linux flavours first:-
----------------------
6) Check that you have a device as ttyUSB?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Arduino boards are now detected as ttyACM? so although NOT tested this might still work...
If this is the case then replace ttyUSB? with ttyACM? below...
7) ls /dev
NOTE:- ? above will probably be 0.
8) If ttyUSB0, (to 7), appears then carry on; otherwise ignore the remainder of this text.
NOTE:- Assuming the device is ttyUSB0 from now on, change below if needed to your ttyUSBx device.
9) Place a wire link between ANALOG 0 and the 3.3 V terminals, OR,
A potentiometer wired, one end to ground, GND, the other end to +5V and the wiper to ANALOG 0...
NOTE:- 'chmod' is probably not really needed but added for fullness!
10) chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0
11) Set up the on board serial I/O to 9600bps and RAW data transfer for PCLinuxOS and Debian.
12) stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 1200
13) stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 raw
14) Now start printing characters to the screen...
15) cat < /dev/ttyUSB0
NOTE:- The wire link characters will be from about 168 to 174 decimal allowing for bit error of the Arduino ADC.
16) Remove and replace the wire link from ANALOG 0 and GND or ANALOG 0 and 5 V too, OR,
A potentiometer wired, one end to ground, GND, the other end to +5V and the wiper to ANALOG 0...
17) Press 'Ctrl-C' to stop any characters being printed to the Terminal.
18) Unplug the USB Arduino board.
19) Power down the computer IF REQUIRED.
Now the Macbook Pro:-
---------------------
6) Now find the device name, mine is tty.usbserial-A7007cvs, yours will probably be much different...
7) ls /dev
8) If you have a new tty* note its name then carry on, otherwise ignore the rest of this text.
(I will use my device name for this example.)
9) Place a wire link between ANALOG 0 and the 3.3 V terminals, OR,
A potentiometer wired, one end to ground, GND, the other end to +5V and the wiper to ANALOG 0...
NOTE:- 'chmod' is probably not really needed but added for fullness!
10) chmod 666 /dev/tty.usbserial-A7007cvs
11) Now start printing characters to the screen...
(The command stty does NOT work for this on the Macnook Pro so revert to the command cu instead.)
12) cu -l /dev/tty.usbserial-A7007cvs -s 9600
13) Ctrl-C does not work so just close down the Terminal COMPLETELY.
14) Unplug tha Arduino board.
15) Power down the computer IF REQUIRED.

This is the "test.pde" code for the Arduino Diecimila board:-
-------------------------------------------------------------
/* Test.pde */
/* Using the Arduino as a DEMO single channel ADC for WinUAE. */
/* For use with AF2005 or greater. This is just demonstration code */
/* only and shows that I/O is possible through WinUAE by other means. */
/* Set up a variable 1 byte in size for basic analogue input. */
int analogue0 = 0;
void setup() {
/* open the serial port at 9600 bps. This rate is used for purely */
/* for simplicity only. */
Serial.begin(9600);
/* Set the analogue voltage reference, DEFAULT is 5V in this case. */
analogReference(DEFAULT);
}
void loop() {
/* Read the 10 bit analogue voltage on analogue input 0. */
analogue0 = analogRead(0);
/* Convert to a byte value by dividing by 4. */
analogue0 = analogue0/4;
/* Send to the Serial Port the byte value. */
Serial.print(analogue0, BYTE);
/* Delay 500 milliseconds before taking the next reading. */
delay(500);
}

Apologies for any typos…
it is another building block along with my other two shell uploads recently to start a semi_serious project of an Terminal_AudioScope…
The fist upload I posted recently was to show how to animate colours, the second was to be able to manipulate a known bainary file to become a timebase and now this simple display…
The next upload will be a simple working unit using “/dev/dsp” for Linux through either the internal micrphone or the external mic input… The limitations of this device is that by default it samples at 8KHz, to 8 bit depth, mono, so don’t expect anything wondrous…
There is a FLAW in this DEMO. It is NOT a bug! What is it? ;o)
You need to know how the console or terminal works to find it…
Be aware of wordwrapping, etc…
