Question if doctor will testify as defense begins case in Phill abortion trial

Over five weeks of testimony, Philadelphia prosecutors have painted Dr. Kermit Gosnell as an eccentric, detached boss who relied on untrained staff to perform abortions at his outdated, inner-city clinic.

But have they proven he murdered a woman and seven babies born alive? Or that the self-proclaimed do-gooder morphed into a greedy, criminally reckless businessman after returning to his downtrodden West Philadelphia neighborhood?

“There has been an incredible rush to judgment like I have never seen before,” defense lawyer Jack McMahon told jurors in opening statements last month.

The defense begins its case Monday, and the most intriguing question is whether the 72-year-old Gosnell will testify.

He may want to give jurors a self-portrait similar to the one he gave the Philadelphia Daily News just after the 2010 FBI raid that shut down his 30-year practice.

“I wanted to be an effective, positive force in the minority community,” Gosnell told the newspaper, explaining how he was an early supporter of therapeutic abortions and drug treatment in the late 1960s.

Trial witnesses have described an abortion clinic, and perhaps a man, growing increasingly chaotic over the years.

One staffer said Gosnell performed mostly first-trimester abortions when she arrived in 2000, and a few second-term procedures. But the breakdown started to flip, perhaps because first-trimester patients had other choices, while second-trimester patients did not.

The woman who died after a 2009 abortion had gone to several clinics near her Virginia home, starting when she was about 15 weeks pregnant. But each time, she was referred elsewhere, until she arrived at Gosnell’s clinic in her 19th week. Bhutanese refugee Karnamaya Mongar, 41, died of a Demerol overdose the next day.

Gosnell’s “nursing” staff included several women who were trained at a career school to be medical assistants, but were quickly shown how to perform ultrasounds and give anesthesia. To make the latter job easier, a 15-year-old worker used markers to draw up a color-coded chart that showed which drug cocktails should be given to which patients. Sometimes, it depended on how much they could pay, witnesses have said.

Prosecutors have filled the courtroom with Gosnell’s office equipment, including a seemingly ancient ultrasound machine, a busted defibrillator and a ripped, aging examining table.

The 546 exhibits also include dozens of patient files, one of which was handled with latex gloves because of a still-odorous stain. And an FBI agent recalled Gosnell, on the night of the 2010 law enforcement raid, eating dinner while they interviewed him.

“He was still wearing his bloody latex gloves. They had some holes in them,” Agent Jason Huff testified.

At the time of the raid, Gosnell had 47 fetuses stored in the freezer, authorities said, apparently because of a billing dispute with his medical waste company. The recovered bodies gave investigators a wealth of evidence to test, and prosecutors said in opening statements they could prove that at least seven babies were born alive.

Unlicensed doctor Stephen Massof and other staff members testified that Gosnell taught them to “snip” babies in the top of the spine after the abortion procedure.

Gosnell Trial Proves Massive Media Malpractice

By David Fiorazo

Master Bedroom SC1 Master Bedroom latest victim of PC police

Doesn’t it matter to pro-abortion Americans that medical research proves and doctors testify that viable babies suffer tremendous pain when their necks or spinal cords are slit?

Did you ever think the media in America would get to the point where details, facts, and news about one of the most horrific killing sprees in recent history would be covered-up, minimized, or omitted altogether?

Here are just a few of the disturbing facts about Gosnell and his killing clinic:

· The remains of 45 babies were found by authorities at the Philly clinic.

· Gosnell preyed mostly on poor and minority women.

· Flea-ridden cats defecated freely, including in procedure rooms.

· One 41 year-old victim of a botched abortion, Karnamaya Mongar, died because the clinic was so crammed with junk that it took paramedics 20 minutes just to find their way out.

· Gosnell collected baby feet in jars.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell has cemented forever the fact that the pro-choice media has chosen ideology and politics over journalism and doing their job.

By now, most Americans have witnessed the media’s blatant disregard for the truth. Many liberals in the media even admit they didn’t want to report on the Gosnell horror story because they felt it would hinder progress for abortion rights. It’s been well established, documented, and proven that the majority of both local and elite media have a liberal, progressive worldview.

This is not exactly a newsflash. Earlier this year, I began a series on media bias and began with research showing their complete lack of fair reporting on the abortion issue:

Approximately 83% of Americans feel that abortion should have some restrictions placed on it by law, but only 3% of media elites do. Translation: the media often believe or support the exact opposite of the majority of citizens to whom they report the news.

We should now take it a step further and look at the primary reasons for their bias. Journalism’s first obligation is to tell the truth, and its first loyalty is to citizens. The fact is, the media is not interested in the whole truth if it doesn’t fit their narrative; and their loyalty and allegiance is to their political party, not to the people they supposedly serve and inform.

Most mainstream media outlets are operated by pro-choice liberals, and a so-called ‘journalist’ is surrounded by coworkers loyal to the left. In addition, most would rather obey their liberal bosses instead of report the news fairly and honestly.

As children progress though government-controlled public schools, most get plenty of indoctrination from teachers who are loyal to their union, the government, and the Democratic Party. Naturally, kids end up repeating liberal talking points, even if they don’t know why they believe what they say they believe.

Due to heavy influence and pressure from peers, culture, and those in authority, most of these young people end up supporting abortion. For those who choose journalism and go to college, they receive one-sided instruction from progressive professors. As a

Clerk admits she gave meds, changed dosage at murder trial of Philadelphia abortion doctor

Five weeks into the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, a woman who was trained only as a medical assistant testified that she administered anesthesia to patients when she worked with Gosnell at his Women’s Medical Society clinic in West Philadelphia.

The assistant, Latosha Lewis, also testified Wednesday that she would sometimes cut the dosages of anesthesia and painkillers after seeing patients she feared would not wake up from sedation.

Lewis, 31, also testified that she stopped assisting with abortions in 2008, but continued to give out medications in her role as clerk.

Gosnell is accused of the 2009 overdose death of a female patient and the deaths of seven babies, who were allegedly born alive. His lawyer, Jack McMahon, says there were no live births at the clinic and argues the woman died of unforeseen complications.

Gosnell could face the death penalty, if he is convicted, on seven counts of first-degree murder.

The prosecutors may rest their case Thursday.

The charges against Gosnell, 72, also include the death of Karnamaya Mongar, a 41-year-old Virginia woman who died in 2009 after seeking an abortion at Gosnell’s clinic. On Tuesday, Mongar’s daughter, Yashoda Gurung testified about the painkiller and labor-inducing drugs her mother was administered while awaiting Gosnell to arrive and perform a second-trimester abortion.

Gurung, 24, said through a Nepalese interpreter that she had tried to see her mother before she was moved into the procedure room on Nov. 19, 2009.

“My mom was sleeping,” Gurung told jurors through a translator. “That’s what I thought. I tried to wake her up and the lady said, ‘Leave her alone.'”

Prosecutors allege Gosnell’s untrained, unlicensed staff gave Mongar a fatal combination of oral and intravenous drugs and failed to properly monitor her vital signs. She went into cardiac arrest and a coma and died the following day. McMahon has countered that Mongar, who was 19 weeks pregnant at the time, had unreported respiratory damage and died of complications.

Damber Ghalley, Mongar’s brother, testified Tuesday he was told Mongar’s situation was “bad” when she arrived for the procedure. Ghalley said she spoke to Gosnell as she was being led to an ambulance.

“He said, ‘The procedure was done,” he told jurors. “Your sister’s heart stopped.”

Gosnell faces a third-degree murder charge in Mongar’s death.

Gosnell’s co-defendant is also calling witnesses Thursday.

Eileen O’Neill, an unlicensed doctor, of Phoenixville, is charged with racketeering and theft for allegedly billing as a doctor.

On Thursday, a prosecution witness testified that she waited hours for “the doctor” to show at the clinic, then received two pills from O’Neill for a non-surgical abortion.

The woman said on cross-examination that she did not know if O’Neill consulted with a doctor that day.

Woman testifies about mom's death at Philadelphia abortion clinic

Yashoda Gurung’s family survived 20 years in a refugee camp after fleeing war-torn Bhutan.

But her mother died months after arriving in the U.S. in 2009 and seeking a legal abortion in Philadelphia.

Karnamaya Mongar‘s overdose death is the subject of one of eight murder counts in the ongoing trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell.

The 72-year-old Gosnell is also charged with killing seven babies born alive.

Through a translator, Gurung testified Tuesday about the labor-inducing drugs and painkillers her mother was given as she waited hours for Gosnell to arrive for the procedure.

She said her mother was later taken to a hospital, but only after firefighters struggled to cut bolts off an emergency door. Mongar died the next day.

The family, which lives in Virginia, has a wrongful-death lawsuit pending against Gosnell.

Receptionist: Unlicensed doctor fled Pennsylvania abortion clinic raid

An unlicensed doctor fled out the back the night the FBI raided a Philadelphia medical clinic in 2010, a witness testified Thursday as a murder trial centered on the unorthodox facility.

Abortion provider KermitGosnell, 72, is charged with killing a woman patient and seven babies allegedly born alive, and with performing illegal, late-term abortions at his thriving inner-city clinic. Co-defendant Eileen O’Neill, 56, of Phoenixville, is charged with billing as a doctor and participating in a corrupt organization.

Eight former employees have pleaded guilty, some to third-degree murder, and have testified this month about bizarre, often-chaotic practices at the clinic.

Ashley Baldwin spoke Thursday of starting there at age 15 through a high school training program, and soon assisting with abortions and administering intravenous drugs. Baldwin, now 22, said she worked nearly 50-hour weeks, often well past midnight, when abortions were routinely performed.

At least twice, she saw aborted babies move after the procedure, only to haveGosnellexplain that it an involuntary response. In one case, she said, “the chest was moving.”

Her mother, Tina Baldwin, had started at the clinic in 2002, referred by a business school where she had studied to be a medical assistant. She mostly worked at the front desk, where her duties included giving patients medicine to start their contractions.

She described O’Neill as a caring doctor who saw mostly older patients for high blood pressure or diabetes. O’Neill kept her office neat, in contrast to the rest of the clinic, Tina Baldwin said. So that’s whereGosnellsteered wealthy or white patients, she said.Gosnellalso met with them and administered their medications himself, she said.

“Nine out of 10 times, if the patient was white … he didn’t want me to (administer the drugs), because he wanted to meet with them himself,” she said.

Gosnell, who is black, would apologize to his mostly black staff, but say “that’s the way it is,” Tina Baldwin testified.

Gosnellperformed as many as 1,000 abortions a year, charging from several hundred dollars for an early abortion to several thousand for a three-day, late-term procedure. Prosecutors contend that he made millions over the years, especially since he relied on untrained, low-paid staff.

Baldwin faces prison time after pleading guilty to corruption of a minor, taking part in a corrupt organization and other charges. She admits administering some of the medication to the patient who died of an overdose. Yet she cooperated early on and wasn’t charged with murder, unlike other clinic workers who gave Karnamaya Mongar the medications in 2009.

The FBI raided the clinic in February 2010 to investigateGosnell’sdistribution of painkillers. Tina Baldwin was at home that evening, although her daughter was there. O’Neill called to say she had slipped out the back door, leaving behind her purse and coat, because she was worried about not having a license, Tina Baldwin testified.

She said O’Neill had routinely written prescriptions on a pad pre-signed byGosnell, even whenGosnellwas not working to authorize it. On cross-examination, as the defense tried to suggest otherwise, she acknowledgedGosnelloften stopped at the clinic on days off to feed his fish or
