Report: Chevy moves to trademark Chevelle nameplate, but why?

Chevrolet Code 130R concept - front three-quarter view

According to a report from GM Authority, General Motors has applied for a trademark on the “Chevelle” nameplate, filing the request under the “exterior badges for vehicles” category of the “goods and services” section of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. And while you certainly could argue that this is simply to protect the Chevelle nomenclature that represents a large part of Chevrolet history, GM Authority has a couple of good reasons why you might want to think otherwise.

First of all, GMA points out that companies don’t necessary file trademarks for the sake of keeping up on records. Basically, if a company wants to complete the registration of a trademark, it needs to file a legal document called a SOU (Statement of Use), which requests that the applicant show the current business reason for filing the trademark. That said, a company can prolong the time it has to file an SOU by up to three years which does, sort of, account for using the trademark on a future product.

But what sort of future product? GM Authority suggests – and stay with us here – that the Chevelle name could be applied to a new coupe to slot in above the Camaro but below the Corvette. In other words, Chevrolet could bring a version of the Code 130R concept (pictured) into production, call it the Camaro, and then have the Chevelle act as a replacement for the Camaro as we know it today, meaning the 130R-based car would instead take the shape of a sort of Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ fighter as we earlier reported.

Another option would be to slap the Chevelle name on the replacement for the Chevrolet SS sedan, which just made its introduction earlier this year. GM Authority states that the Holden VF Commodore on which the current SS is based will only be around for another three years, so this would still be within the timing of the trademark filing’s Statement of Use.

Of course, this could all be nothing – or it could be something else entirely. Only time will tell. Let us know what your best guess is in Comments.

Haband Knit Slacks Win Good Morning America $7 Pants Face-Off Feature

OAKLAND, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Haband Company, one of America’s oldest direct mail-order companies, announced today that one of its products was deemed the winner in a real-world comparison conducted by ABC Television’s Good Morning America reporter, Becky Worley.

GMA called the segment, which aired today on the morning program, the $7 Pants Face-Off. It seemed to be designed to test how Haband’s $7 black knit slacks fared against a similar-looking pair of $170.00 work pants from an unnamed “fancy store.” Worley and a friend each donned the pants and asked random passers-by in Walnut Creek, California which pair of the two had the higher price tag. The results were surprising, even to Worley: Three out of four people questioned selected the Haband knit slacks as the more expensive of the two.

Haband’s model #A06 knit slacks are a perennial best seller for the company. Designed with comfort and value in mind, they are machine washable, easy-care, and never require ironing — qualities that women of any age or size can appreciate. For more information, interested parties can visit www.haband.com or call 1-800-742-2263.

This real-world comparison was entirely unsolicited and Haband Company received no compensation for its products being shown in the segment.

Robin Roberts Returns To ‘Good Morning America’

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Robin Roberts, the “Good Morning America” anchor whose medical battles have kept her from the ABC show for months, returned to her job on Wednesday.

GMA” opened with a tight closeup of Roberts, who said, “I have been waiting 174 days to say this: ‘Good Morning America.'” She had been completely bald as a result of her medical treatment, but her hair is growing back; she joked that if viewers looked hard, they would find bangs.

“I keep pinching myself, and I realize this is real,” she said. “This is actually happening.”
