Dwight Howard Booed In Orlando, Fouled By Magic Players As Lakers Win (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Fans in Orlando let Dwight Howard hear how they felt. His former teammates let him feel it.

In his first game back in his old stomping ground since being traded to Los Angeles during the offseason, Howard received the welcome expected. After being booed, loudly, as the visiting Lakers were introduced, Howard absorbed 24 personal fouls.

Whether it was deployed in response to Howard’s recent digs at his former teammates or in hopes of exploiting his historic deficiencies at the line, the Magic’s hack-a-Dwight strategy sent Howard to the free throw line for an NBA-record tying 39 attempts. He made 25 of those shots. Howard had previously set the attempts record while wearing a Magic uniform in 2012. He tied it while wearing Magic players for much of the second half on Tuesday night. Thanks in large part to Howard’s season-high 39 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks, the Lakers emerged from with a 106-97 win, their fourth in a row.

NBA Centers Face Extinction

By Brian Goff, Contributor

Russell, Chamberlain, Jabbar, Lanier, Walton, Gilmore, Malone, Olajuwan, Ewing, O’Neal.  Over decades, these and other “centers” dominated the NBA.  The “association” conducted its annual All-Star game on Sunday.   For the first time, the league did not list “Center” as a separate position for fan voting.  Yes, some of the players in the game still carry the label, but only one of the starters, Dwight Howard, possesses the physical characteristics or style of play historically attached to the position.  In altering its All-Star ballot, the NBA merely officially recognized the trend in the game – centers have been trending toward T-Rex’s fate along with “Sky Hook,” “Dream Shake,” and “up and under.” …read more

Notebook: Celtics 116, Lakers 95

THE FACTS: Paul Pierce scored 12 of his 24 points in the third quarter, as the Boston Celtics pulled away from the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers in the second half to cruise to a 116-95 victory. It was Boston’s sixth straight win overall, as the hosts ruined Dwight Howard‘s return to the Lakers’ starting lineup with an offensive onslaught that could not be contained, posting a new regulation season high with 116 points. Jeff Green (19 points) and Jason Terry (15 points) provided additional firepower off the bench for the C’s new-look spread offense, which featured six players scoring in double figures.
