China Scores Earlier Release, Extra Footage Of Disney's 'Iron Man 3'

By Simon Montlake, Forbes Staff

For proof of how overseas markets drive Hollywood, look no further than Disney’s ‘Iron Man 3′. The action-hero movie was co-financed by DMG, a Chinese media company that has the rights to distribute the film in China. Disney said last week that, contrary to DMG‘s earlier hype, the film isn’t an official Chinese co-production, a status that gives foreign studios a bigger box-office cut. But Chinese audiences will see extra footage that didn’t make the cut for global audiences, including a star turn from Fan Bingbing. Director Shane Black shot these scenes and others in China last year. The film’s premiere also trumps the U.S. release: Apr. 26, the same as the U.K. and other markets. U.S. audiences will wait another week for the film to open (May 2). This upends the old Hollywood playbook of domestic premieres followed by overseas markets. Now the focus for big-budget flicks is on satisfying global audiences that can be lured into theatres while the buzz is strong, particularly in markets where piracy is rampant. …read more

China to Get Its Own Version of Iron Man 3

The Chinese release date for Iron Man 3 hasn’t been set yet, but Marvel Studios and DMG have announced that they will release a special China-only version of the superhero movie there.

In a joint statement, Marvel and DMG said: “While Marvel and DMG have decided not to apply for co-production status in China, the film includes significant Chinese elements. Renowned Chinese actor Wang Xueqi will appear in both the studio’s Chinese version of the film and in its international and domestic US version. Both versions of the film include Iron Man 3 footage filmed in Beijing in December.”

Marble 1.5 for Mac OSX!

I was trying to produce a Marble DMG for Mac OSX since February and as all of you know that OSX has its own banana skins to slip you off, especially when you have upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion ( the decision which I am already regretting ). But, finally I have succeeded in producing a Marble DMG.

Henceforth, I would be privileged if all the KDE developers and users who use OSX gave a try to this DMG on their Macs. Here’s the link to the DMGhttps://dl.dropbox.com/u/50262219/Marble-1.5.0.dmg. Also, it would be very helpful if you give me your feedback via the Comments, be it criticism or suggestion, so that I can improve upon my work.

Thank You 🙂

PeaZip 4.8.1 (KDE Archiving/Backup)

ThumbnailPeaZip 4.8.1
(KDE Archiving/Backup)
PeaZip is a cross-platform, desktop neutral file archiver utility that provides an unified portable GUI (Qt and GTK2) for many Open Source technologies like 7-Zip, FreeArc, PAQ, UPX

Create 7Z, ARC, BZ2, GZ, *PAQ, PEA, QUAD/BALZ, TAR, UPX, WIM, XZ, ZIP files

Extract over 150 archive types: ACE, ARJ, CAB, DMG, ISO, LHA, RAR, UDF, ZIPX and many more…

Features of PeaZip includes extract, create and convert multiple archives at once, create self-extracting archives, split/join files, strong encryption with two factor authentication, encrypted password manager, secure deletion, find duplicate files, calculate hashes, export job definition as scripts.

Installation and integration in *x systems:

If experiencing problems running PeaZip compiled for Qt, start it as:
peazip -style=cleanlooks

If experiencing problems with PeaZip compiled for Qt widgetset, it is available PeaZip compiled for GTK2 libraries as alternative, or it is possible to compile the application for its own Qt version using Lazarus/FreePascal IDE, which supports compiling the sources for various widgetsets: Win32, WinCE, fpGUI, Carbon, Qt, GTK1, GTK2.

On Linux systems, PeaZip installer automatically create menu entries for KDE (on most versions); to add PeaZip to Gnome menu copy the “Archiving” folder placed in PeaZip/Freedesktop_integration/nautilus-scripts to system’s Nautilus script’s folder (in most versions open “Scripts” menu in system’s context menu, and select “Open script’s folder”).

Qt widgetset packages requires Qt 4.5 or more recent, and needs libQt4Pas.so installed in /usr/local/lib or equivalent directory (copy the file and run ldconfig; it is done automatically in installable packages), such as /usr/lib or /usr/lib32 on some 64 bit distributions.
A copy of libQt4Pas.so is available in PeaZip’s directory, ./usr/local/share/PeaZip/ for the installable packages.
If the Qt version does not start on some systems, as some system’s visual styles may cause recursive repainting error, you can fix the problem starting it in a console (or script) as: peazip -style=cleanlooks

On 64 bit systems, backend binaries in PeaZip/res path can be freely replaced by users with respective 64 bit counterpart (if available).

PeaZip Portable is standalone software and doesn’t need installation and can be used from removable or remote paths without changing the host system (useful is system needs to stay library-freezed).
‘Freedesktop_integration’ folder in PeaZip’s path contains .desktop files and Nautilus scripts to help users to configure tighter integration of PeaZip with desktop environment’s menus.

changelog:

Improved GUI, various fixes.

2012 12 06
Added native build of PeaZip Portable for BSD systems
