Quinte Health Care Chooses Amcom Software for Critical Test Results Management

  • Quinte Health Care will use Amcom’s critical test results management solution to send test results from the Laboratory, Radiology, and Cardiopulmonary departments to ordering physicians
  • Amcom’s CTRM solution provides closed-loop confirmations that the provider received results and updates the patient’s electronic medical record

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Amcom Software, Inc. today announced Quinte Health Care (QHC) will use the Amcom® Critical Test Results Management (CTRM) solution to save time and improve patient safety and quality of care. The Ontario, Canada-based organization selected Amcom to provide a more efficient reporting system, reduce the risk of missed incidental findings, and improve the workflow for diagnosticians and physicians. This will be possible through the system’s ability to alert staff of test results quickly and note findings directly in patients’ electronic medical records.

“Presently, when a patient has a critical test result, the radiologist or lab technologist has a cumbersome process that includes multiple phone calls to the referring physician and manual documentation of that call,” said Dianna Kiss, PACS Coordinator at QHC. “We want to automate this process so that the diagnosticians and technologists can be more efficient and keep their focus on patient care. Another reason for this initiative is to streamline the method for communicating results to the ER physicians, thereby improving ER patient throughput and minimizing ER patient wait times. Amcom will smooth these processes and make test result communications faster. Our diagnosticians can be assured that their findings and recommendations have been received and reviewed.”

Amcom Critical Test Results Management will integrate with multiple systems throughout the QHC facility using Health Level 7 (HL7), the standard format for exchanging patient health information among medical applications. This integration will allow diagnosticians to document and immediately send alerts about their findings. It will also provide smoother management of incidental, non-urgent findings. All communications will be secure and automatically recorded to provide a full audit trail that supports accountability.

“We chose Amcom because it’s not a cookie-cutter solution; we can tailor it to QHC,” Kiss said. “It works in all the diagnostic areas we report for – Cardiopulmonary, Radiology, and the Laboratory, and will provide efficiencies in the diagnostics and ER departments alike.”

“I am excited to see that Quinte Health Care will apply our CTRM solution in so many important areas,” said Colin Balmforth, President, Amcom Software. “We’re not …read more

Amcom Software Links Updated Solutions for Improved Physician and Nurse Communications

  • New, tighter integration features strong escalation capabilities—a key request from hospital customers
  • Combined solution lets hospitals better manage mobile workflows and set provider communication preferences

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Amcom Software, Inc. today announced exciting enhancements to the integration between its secure texting and preference-based routing solutions. Amcom Mobile Connect® supports easy, secure, HIPAA-compliant text messaging, while Amcom Care Connect helps caregivers connect quickly based on their own schedules and preferences on how to be reached. Together, these solutions give physicians and nurses the flexibility to talk or text, incorporating critical escalation features if a caregiver is unavailable.

The Amcom Mobile Connect 3.3 release boasts a new chat view screen and updates that make it easier for caregivers to locate and connect with one another. This release also meets requests from hospital customers to strengthen the link between these products. Sometimes hospitals coordinate care best with secure texting. Other times physicians need to speak directly. This solution combination enables both.

The following example illustrates the integration:

Doctor One calls Amcom Care Connect to request a consult with Doctor Two. The call goes to Doctor Two’s smartphone via Amcom Mobile Connect as a secure text message, per her established preferences. Doctor Two cannot take the call, so the system escalates the message to the next-available doctor. He immediately speaks with Doctor One to discuss the patient’s situation.

“Healthcare continues to focus on improving patient care while keeping an eye on caregiver efficiency,” said Colin Balmforth, President, Amcom Software. “We are proud to further our development of Amcom Care Connect and Amcom Mobile Connect to meet these healthcare goals.”
