No more stillborn remains found in hospital facility, laundry service says

The Minnesota laundry service that discovered the remains of a stillborn baby in hospital linens says that no other remains have been found at its facility.

Crothall Healthcare in Red Wing made the statement after Regions Hospital in St. Paul announced the remains of a second stillborn baby were missing. Crothall says the hospital is reviewing the laundry over the weekend in hopes of recovering the missing stillborn.

Regions said Friday that it believes the remains of a stillborn at 19 weeks gestational age had been placed in the same basket as the remains of another stillborn discovered Tuesday. That stillborn was 22 weeks gestational age.

The hospital has apologized.

Crothall president Steve Carpenter says on the company website that Crothall is prepared to help the hospital and grieving parents.

Infant's body found in Minnesota hospital's linens

Police in southeastern Minnesota are investigating after an infant’s body was discovered in linens from a St. Paul hospital.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting early Wednesday that the body of a full-term infant fell out of a bed sheet Tuesday afternoon at an industrial laundry in the town of Red Wing.

Red Wing Police Chief Roger Pohlman says hospital workers had removed the body and linens from Crothall Laundry before his officers arrived. He declined to name the hospital but said his office is in contact with St. Paul police and the Ramsey County medical examiner.

Pohlman says the linens had been delivered to Crothall no longer than two days ago.

Blizzard conditions cause nearly 600 crashes in Minnesota

A slow-moving storm has dumped at least 16 inches of snow on parts of Minnesota, blanketing the Twin Cities, making some rural roads impassable and leading to at least one fatal crash.

The heaviest snowfall the Twin Cities has experienced in two years led to the cancellation of dozens of flights at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Sunday and caused hundreds of traffic accidents around the state.

Blizzard conditions, blowing and drifting snow made visibility so poor that the state Department of Transportation pulled snowplows off the highways Sunday afternoon in southwest and west Minnesota.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported nearly 600 crashes by Sunday night. The patrol says one person was killed in a crash involving a semi on Highway 61 near Red Wing.
