Bautista Locks in Guardians of the Galaxy

We knew he was in the running for the part, and now mixed martial artist and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has signed on to costar as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Jason Momoa, of Conan remake and Game of Thrones fame, had originally been rumored to win the role last month, but reportedly turned it down. Isaiah Mustafa and Brian Patrick Wade had also been up for the Drax part, but Bautista now has the job.

Chris Pratt is already onboard the project, playing Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord. Drax is a formerly dead human (killed by Thanos!) who is resurrected to kill the purple-faced basterd — at least, that’s how it goes down in the comics. Other members of the team who have yet to be cast include the assassin Gamora, the tree-man Groot and the talking raccoon, Rocket.

Marvel Eyes Carrey and Sandler for Guardians?

Marvel Studios is reportedly eying a pair of big name comedy stars for Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to Latino-Review, Marvel is said to be checking the availability of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. The site’s unsure which roles Carrey and Sandler might be under consideration for, but it’s possible it could be voice-over roles such as Rocket Raccoon or Groot.

Carrey’s certainly no stranger to comic book movies having starred in Batman Forever, The Mask and the upcoming Kick-Ass 2.

Furthermore, Latino-Review claims that three other actors have read for the lead role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord: Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games, Ghost Rider), Cam Gigandet (Priest, Twilight), and Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars, The Help).

JGL Rumored for Guardians of the Galaxy

Never mind Batman — how about Joseph Gordon-Levitt for… Star-Lord!

Who’s Star-Lord, you might ask? He’s the leader of — and lead role in — Marvel’s cosmic Guardians of the Galaxy team/movie, a human-alien hybrid (in the comics anyway) named Peter Quill who heads out into space, where he meets and joins up with a bunch of intergalactic oddballs.

Deadline reports that JGL has joined the group of actors who are in the running for the role of Quill. Zachary Levi (Chuck, Thor: The Dark World) has previously been reported to be in the running for the gig, along with Zero Dark Thirty’s Joel Edgerton, Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston, Cloud Atlas’ Jim Sturgess, The Hobbit’s Lee Pace and Les Miserables’ Eddie Redmayne. Other names in the mix have included Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden and Sullivan Stapleton.
