Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Get Ready for Fatalities

Cast members Casper Van Dien (Johnny Cage), Brian Tee (Liu Kang), Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion), Samantha Jo (Kitana), and MK creator Ed Boon appeared on the Mortal Kombat: Legacy panel at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday, alongside director Kevin Tancharoen, producer Lance Sloane and Machinima Exec VP of Network Programming Aaron DeBevoise, to discuss the upcoming second season of the successful web series.

“Fatalities” was the word of the day, as just about everyone on the panel hammered the point home that Season 2 would be more amped up, brutal and include – yes – fatalities. All the actors were enthusiastic about having more rehearsal time for the fight scenes this time around, which they insisted would be faster, harder and better than the first season. Fans can also expect one linear storyline this time out, where they’ll see the characters fighting in the tournament.

Kevin Smith Gets His Game On With Jason Mewes Playing Injustice: Gods Among Us

By John Gaudiosi, Contributor

NetherRealm Studios’ new fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, is already getting rave reviews from gaming sites. It’s the second time the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment-owned studio, NetherRealm, has worked with some of the most famous DC Comics super heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Arrow and The Flash in a video game. MK vs DC Universe was a hit years ago, but this new game rids the Mortal Kombat characters and delves into the Injustice comic book mythology that allows some of the most iconic super heroes to turn on each other in combat. It’s also worth noting that both of these games run on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Review

Black Adam streaks towards Earth, wreathed in golden-hued lighting. He touches down on the streets of downtown Metropolis with a simple proclamation: “I have returned.” Cut to its guardian, the son of Jor-El, tearing his suit off to reveal the iconic “S” beneath it. After being slammed through a skyscraper, Black Adam rears up and shouts, “SHAZAM!” rending Superman with a massive thunderbolt. Supes responds by punching Black Adam into the atmosphere, flying up past him, and sending him crashing back down to Earth with a towering overhead smash.

It’s exactly the kind of glorious fight you expect from the DC Universe’s mightiest, and Injustice: Gods Among Us makes it almost as fun and rewarding to watch as it is to play. NetherRealm’s follow-up to Mortal Kombat is both a very good brawler and a big old sloppy love letter to fans. And while it buckles just a bit under the weight of all it tries to do, Injustice definitely earns its spot on the shelf of fighting aficionados, whether they dig comics or not.

Injustice: The Death of Metropolis

The fighting genre’s blundering misadventures in storytelling might be something of a running joke in our video game community, but when a game—any game—opens with the headline “Metropolis Destroyed, Millions Dead,” it’s really hard not to sit up and take notice. I’m not saying I’m totally sold yet, but the team at NetherRealm Studios (you know, the Mortal Kombat guys) sure knows how to make an entrance.

IGN’s latest hands-on demo with the DC Comics-based brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us finally blew the lid off the game’s story mode, which understandably apes MK9’s style of interspersing cutscenes between each fight to create an overarching narrative. While the devs declined to give me a rundown of the overall story citing unspecified spoilers, they did let me play the entire first chapter.

The Grim, Dark Future: 'Injustice: Gods Among Us #1' Comic Review

By Jen Bosier, Contributor If there is one thing that NetherRealm Studios knows, it is how to create a bone-cracking, appendix-rupturing fighter. The “Mortal Kombat” reboot in 2011 proved that they are still at the top of the fighting game; which is why it was exciting when they announced they would be tackling the DC Comics universe in “Injustice: Gods Among Us.” Ed Boon and crew are promising a deep, involved story line to satisfy comics fans, but they still haven’t answered the question on all our minds: Why would Earth’s greatest heroes be duking it out “Mortal Kombat-“style?

MGR: Revengeance Demo Launches Next Week

Konami has announced a playable demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be available for Xbox 360 and PS3 next week.

The three-stage demo will be made available via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace from January 22 in North American and January 23 in Europe.

A new trailer has also been released to accompany the announcement, which you can check out below. It shows off Raiden and the game’s Zan-Datsu combat system in impressive form, even if they do rather worryingly only manage to net a B for the performance.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be available from February 19 in North America, February 21 in Australia and February 22 in Europe.

Luke Karmali is IGN’s UK Editorial Assistant and still prefers the Raiden from Mortal Kombat. You too can revel in mediocrity by following him on IGN and on Twitter.
