In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for 3DS, Luigi is the better brother. That’s because half the game takes place in Luigi’s amusingly-warped mind. Luigi’s inferiority complex has emerged as a theme in Mario games, and even when Luigi’s the star, as in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, the lesser brother plays the cowering, unlikely hero. It makes sense, then, that in his dreams, Luigi is not only his brother’s equal in jumping and tossing fireballs, he’s pretty much a mustachioed god.
The Mario & Luigi: Dream Team demo I played placed me in control of Mario & Luigi, and, like in previous games, controlling two Mario bros. with two separate jump buttons can provide for some sticky platforming. The twist in this entry is that at designated napping areas, Luigi can snap into a comatose state at the drop of his green hat. At this point, Mario hops into Luigi’s dream (there is a typically incomprehensible Mario RPG explanation for all of this) and the game switches from an isometric view to the side-on angle of Super Mario Bros.
