Mortal Instruments Gets a Spin-Off Film

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is the next would-be movie franchise in the young adult sector. Based on the series of books by Cassandra Clare, the film will be released on August 23 by Sony and Constantin Films.

But as frequently happens with such projects, a sequel is already in the works. Well, not really a sequel. Heat Vision reports that Constantin is now developing Infernal Devices, which is based on a trilogy of spin-off prequels also by Clare. Actress Stephanie Sanditz is transitioning to the other side of the camera to write the screenplay.

Zoe Saldana Up for Guardians of the Galaxy

Is it Guardians of the Galaxy day? First we heard rumors that Thanos might be getting a henchman in the upcoming Marvel film, and now word has come that Zoe Saldana is up for the female lead role of Gamora.

Heat Vision reports that the Star Trek and Avatar star is in negotiations to play Gamora, the green-skinned alien assassin who also happens to be the adopted daughter of the villainous Thanos (who eventually turns against him). At least, that’s how it went down in the comics. It remains to be seen how the Guardians story will play out on the big screen.

Silverman Joining MacFarlane's Ted Follow-Up

Sarah Silverman is in talks to join the Western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West. The film is Seth MacFarlane’s directorial follow-up to his hit Ted.

Heat Vision has this latest report on the project, which will also star Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried and Giovanni Ribisi, plus MacFarlane himself.

Assassin’s Creed Movie Lands Writer

New Regency and Ubisoft have found a writer for their Assassin’s Creed movie.

British playwright Michael Lesslie will adapt the game to the big screen, according to Heat Vision. Lesslie has no feature-film credits to his name, though he has written several short films. Michael Fassbender will star in and produce the movie.

You have to wonder what New Regency and Ubisoft see in Lesslie and what this indicates for their future movie plans, as they seem to be taking this Hollywood thing quite seriously these days. (They also have Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell in the works with The Dark Knight Rises’ Tom Hardy starring as Sam Fisher.) Maybe they’re actually going for good writers instead of hot name recognition behind the camera?

Dennis Haysbert Joins Sin City 2

President Palmer in the house!
Dennis Haysbert, of 24 and Allstate Insurance fame, is in talks to join the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
Heat Vision reports that Haysbert will play Manute, “the brutal and seemingly unstoppable right-hand man of Ava’s husband.” No word yet on who will play the femme fatale Ava — the titular dame — though Angelina Jolie‘s name has been floated.
