PHILADELPHIA — Florida Gulf Coast became the first 15 to reach the Sweet 16, and the Eagles not only made it look easy, they made it look fun.
Little-known FGCU beat San Diego State 81-71 on Sunday night, its second NCAA tournament upset of the weekend. Just like in their opening win over second-seeded Georgetown – the Eagles’ calling card to the nation – there were plenty of laughs, dunks and dances.

The Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast University are flying into the round of 16 after upsetting San Diego State in the third round in the South Region. A 17-0 run in the second half keyed the Eagles’ 81-71 win, making them the first No. 15 seed ever to advance to the Sweet 16.
“Our goal was to make history and we did it,” FGCU coach Andy Enfield told CBS after the game.

No. 7 seed San Diego State will face No. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast in the third round of the NCAA Tournament in the South region.
Florida Gulf Coast stunned No. 2 Georgetown with a 78-68 upset for the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win in its first-ever appearance. FGCU will now look to upset the Aztecs, who topped Oklahoma in the second round.
The winner in this matchup on March 24 will advance to the Sweet 16.
