Goyer Talks Da Vinci's Demons and… Dracula?

Debuting Friday on Starz, following the final episode of Spartacus, Da Vinci’s Demons portrays the famous Leonardo Da Vinci (Tom Riley) in his early days, creating incredible inventions while encountering mysterious and powerful foes.

The series comes from David Goyer, whose many credits include co-writing Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and writing the upcoming Man of Steel.

I spoke to Goyer about his approach to Da Vinci and how far the show might veer into the realm of fantasy, as Da Vinci encounters the real life inspiration for Dracula, among other contemporaries.

IGN TV: You’ve mentioned how you had conversations with Starz about different historical figures that might be the basis for a TV series. What was it about Da Vinci that said to you, “That’s the one?”

Man of Steel is "Movie That The World Needs Right Now" Says Screenwriter

Screenwriter David S. Goyer has been discussing the challenges involved in bringing Superman back to the big-screen with this summer’s Man of Steel.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at the launch of his new TV series Da Vinci’s Demons, Goyer explained that writing Man of Steel was more challenging than his work on Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

“I never thought I’d be doing a Superman film,” he explained. “The only possible way to top myself or ourselves on Batman is to tackle Superman who’s the sort of granddaddy of all the superheroes. He’s trickier. It’s easier doing a dark character who doesn’t have any superpowers, but I’m really proud of what we’ve done and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
