Cindy Crawford: Model Says Parents’ Divorce Motivated Her To Seek Financial Independence (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Before she became a supermodel, Cindy Crawford was a young girl growing up in the small town of DeKalb, Illinois. In this clip from the March 10 episode of “Oprah’s Master Class,” Cindy looks back on her childhood and reveals what her parents’ divorce taught her about financial independence.

“Unfortunately, my parents were one of those couples that didn’t make it,” Cindy says in the clip, explaining that after her parents divorced, Cindy’s father would usually give her mother money each week for child support, but would occasionally withhold the funds at his own discretion. “If he was mad at her — because she’d gone out on a date or done something else — he wouldn’t give her the money that week,” says Cindy. “That sometimes meant we didn’t get grocery money or gas money.”

Witnessing her mother’s financial dependence on her father led Cindy to vow that she would never end up in the same position. “I saw that and I was like, ‘This will never happen to me,’” Cindy states. “I will never be in that situation where I can’t take care of myself.”

Cindy Crawford: ‘I Don’t Consider Myself A Model’ (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The world knows Cindy Crawford as a supermodel who has graced the cover of countless magazines, but in an upcoming episode of “Oprah’s Master Class,” airing on Sunday, March 10 at 10 p.m. ET on OWN, the sexy American icon reveals that the “model” label does not define who she is.

“I don’t consider myself a model,” Crawford says. “’Model’ is not who I am. It’s what I do.” In this exclusive clip, she explains the difference between the idea of being a model and modeling as a profession — a distinction that Crawford says is often lost on young girls eager to break into the modeling field. “That real lesson, especially for someone in my line of work, [is] to have to like what’s on the inside, to not identify with the envelope,” says Crawford. “The envelope took me far, but that’s not who I am.”

Oprah’s Master Class” airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.

Despite Evidence to the Contrary, Coco Rocha Does Not Consider Herself a Supermodel

By Christina Perez

She may have graced countless covers, editorials, and major campaigns, but Coco Rocha says that doesn’t mean she’s a supermodel.

“I cannot ever call myself a supermodel. That was an era in time – when Naomi worked – and those girls owned the industry,” Rocha explained in a recent interview with Time. “Nowadays, you do one cover and if it gets a lot of hype, you’re considered a supermodel.”

But even if she doesn’t consider herself in the same league as Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Helena Christensen, and Naomi Campbell – her cojudge in the upcoming modeling-contest TV show The Face – Rocha has definitely succeeded in building her brand the modern way. “For any model who starts today, they have to go with the flow of here and now – for me, it was embracing social media.” And boy, has she. The “nonsupermodel” currently has over 462,000 Twitter followers – and counting.

For that reason – and despite her protests – we can’t help but feel that Rocha is definitely a supermodel for this day and age. A look at all the gorgeous images that prove it, in the slideshow.
