ARCADIS Wins 2013 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) awarded their Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award (OCEA) to ARCADIS US, the subsidiary of ARCADIS NV (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the leading pure play global engineering and consultancy firm, for its Alvarado Water Treatment Plant Ozone Upgrade and Expansion Project in San Diego. The project increased capacity at the 62 year old plant by nearly 70 percent and improved the disinfection process providing safer, better tasting water to San Diego‘s growing communities.

The Alvarado Water Treatment Plant, the oldest active facility providing water to San Diego residents, now uses ozone rather than chlorine to disinfect the city’s drinking water. Ozone disinfection reduces the water’s level of potentially harmful chlorine by-product and removes tastes and odors for safer, more aesthetically pleasing water. The ozone process was placed between settling and filtration, never before imagined in San Diego, and thereby reduced chemical dosages and energy usage.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the leading pure play global engineering and consultancy firm, announced today that two of its New York area projects will receive high honors from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York at its awards gala on April 6. The Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant (Bay Park): Dechlorination Facility project for Nassau County will receive the Diamond Award in the category of waste and storm water; the Westchester County Water District #3: Water System Distribution Improvements project will receive the Gold Award in the water resources category.

At Bay Park, ARCADIS engineered an innovative dechlorination project that reused existing plant facilities – the first such installation in the United States. ARCADIS‘ work saved the county millions of dollars in capital costs compared to other alternatives, and protected nearby Jones Beach, a valuable recreational and environmental asset.

Historically, water supply for Westchester County Water District #3 was drawn from a connection to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s Catskill Aqueduct. When the County learned there were to be extended shutdowns of the aqueduct, they recognized the need to develop a long-term alternative supply of water and decided on a new transmission main and a pre-fabricated pumping station. ARCADIS was responsible for the entire project from initial planning through design and construction resulting in the County’s first large-scale installation of ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology and no disruptions to serviceintheir critical service area, which includes a hospital, penitentiary and medical college.

The Bay Park STP Dechlorination Facility will also compete in the national competition sponsored by the ACEC.

The panel, entitled “Anticipating and Adapting to Water Extremes Today,” will discuss impacts to climate change that may result from shifts in regional and global water patterns and how the outcomes may require us to think differently about how we deal with water in a warmer world.

Dircke is considered a leading global expert in flood protection and climate adaptation for coastal and delta cities. Prior to and after superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, he has been involved in knowledge exchange projects on climate change adaptation, flood protection and waterfront development in New York. CEO of ARCADIS U.S. Steve Blake Announces Retirement

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), a leading international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, today announced the intended retirement of its CEO Steven Blake. Blake has served as CEO of ARCADIS US for 16 years, has been a member of the ARCADIS executive board for eight years and has worked for ARCADIS for a total of 26 years. He has set June 1, 2013 as his date of retirement.

During his tenure, ARCADIS US grew its revenue five times, while improving bottom line performance ten times. Blake was instrumental in the integration of a number of large mergers, notably with the environmental firm BBL in 2005 and with water consulting and engineering company Malcolm Pirnie in 2009. Both additions have contributed significantly to the company’s growth. In addition, he successfully managed many other acquisitions that enhanced or added service lines which aided in the ARCADIS expansion. As an Executive Board member he oversaw the Global Business Line (GBL) Environment; GBL Water; Global Health and Safety and supported RTKL in their transition to be part of the ARCADIS family.
