Nissan is recalling 13,000 of its new 2014 Versa Note hatchbacks due to an issue with various bolts used to assemble the vehicle. Considering the Versa Note was only recently put on sale, this news must be driving Nissan nuts (we couldn’t resist), but presumably the lion’s share of these vehicles are still at dealerships.

According to a report from The Detroit News, there are two separate issues. The first has to do with the latches for the rear seats, which include bolts that may not be strong enough to keep the seats upright in the event of a crash. The second relates to the bolts that attach the body to the undercarriage. Apparently they may not have been tightened properly, and in rare cases may be missing altogether. No injuries or accidents have been reported from either issue.

Owners are being told to report to dealers for the fixes, with notifications coming in mid-August.

Official: Altima Coupe dead as Nissan charts the changes for 2014

By Damon Lowney

Filed under:

The 2014 model year brings plenty of new designs and updates from Nissan – including the next-generation Rogue – but the Altima Coupe has been discontinued. The current generation of the Coupe won buyers over with sharp styling and, at one point, a 270-horsepower naturally aspirated V6 – the heart of the more upscale Infinity G37. It’s unlikely that Nissan plans to make another one, but keep in mind the current Coupe was released to the public about a year after the sedan hit dealerships.

The vehicles joining Nissan’s lineup for 2014 include the Versa Note hatchback, the NV200 Compact Cargo van and the next-generation Rogue compact SUV. Also new for 2014 is the Pathfinder Hybrid, but that will be added to the lineup in the fall.

Other models that are receiving enhancements are the sedan version of the Altima, which now comes standard with the CVT transmission and gets revised option packs; the Frontier, which gets updated option packs, enhanced navigation system functionality and a sliding middle rear window; the GT-R, which receives a bunch of small performance enhancements and, more importantly, initially will be offered in three versions (Premium, Black Edition and Track Edition), with another, limited special-edition model coming late in the year; the Versa sedan, all versions of which get 60/40-split fold-down rear seats and revised steering and suspension tuning; and last, but not least, the 370Z NISMO will have exterior accent color updates and a new steering wheel and tachometer.

There are plenty more details to be gleaned about Nissan’s model lineup for 2014, so be sure to read the press release below.

Detroit: 2014 Nissan Versa Note pushes the little hatchback forward

2014 Nissan Versa Note

Alright, truth time: The Nissan Versa isn’t exactly our favorite car in the subcompact class. It’s certainly competent, reliable transportation, but it’s hardly an emotional purchase choice. Perhaps this new version of the Versa, then, can change our minds a bit. Meet the Versa Note – the cuter, five-door version of the li’l sedan, making its debut here at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Aesthetically, the Versa Note is a pretty pleasant-looking thing; we’ve seen it before in JDM-spec. It’s a decidedly aerodynamic thing, too, with a drag coefficient of just 0.29. And because of that – as well as an efficient little powertrain – the Note will achieve up to 40 miles per gallon on the highway.

Under the hood is Nissan’s 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine churning out a furious 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque. Like, well, every other Nissan car, the Versa is equipped with a continuously variable transmission and will drive the front wheels exclusively. Base S models can be had with a five-speed manual transmission, but the moment you step up to a higher trim level, the do-it-yourself shifter goes away.

There’s a whole bunch of technological goodies available on the Versa Note, as well, including Nissan’s excellent AroundView Monitor that’ll give you a bird’s eye view of your surroundings. NissanConnect is also available on SL models with the technology package, equipped with things like NavTraffic, NavWeather, hands-free text messaging, streaming audio, Pandora and Bluetooth, all housed in a 5.8-inch touch-screen.

What’s really attractive about the Note is its starting price: $13,990. That represents a $2,000 increase over the base Versa sedan, but well undercuts a lot of competitors in the segment. The Versa note officially hits dealerships this summer. Scroll down for the official press blast.

2014 Nissan Versa Note

Nissan today confirmed that it will be showing the 2014 Versa Note – not Versa, not Note, but Versa Note – at next week’s 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And while we can’t see a whole lot from this one teaser image, we’re willing to bet that the car looks a lot like this.

All Nissan will tell us at this time is that the Versa Note will have “segment-exclusive technology, outstanding fuel economy, smart packaging and class-leading cargo space.” Sounds… class-competitive.

Given how turned-off we are by the second-generation Versa sedan, it’ll be interesting to see just what’s in store for this Notably more functional version of the affordable compact. Stay tuned for the full details live from Cobo Hall in just a few days, and scroll down to read Nissan’s brief press blast.
