Slow Your Roll on That Texas Chainsaw Sequel

This week, Millennium Films chief Avi Lerner made the announcement that a sequel to Texas Chainsaw 3D is definitely on the way and currently in development. The news seemed like a no-brainer, especially considering the film was No. 1 at the box office this weekend.

However, the franchise’s rights holders, producer Carl Mazzocone and executive producer Mark Burg, said that Lerner was never given the go-ahead to make that call. They were also surprised because no progress has actually been made on a sequel.

“The rights are controlled by Carl and Main Line Pictures, no matter what Millennium says,” Burg tells Deadline. “Millennium simply sold the foreign rights and they will not tell us when a sequel is ready to be made. Texas Chainsaw Sequel in the Works

Not exactly shocking news since it is the No. 1 movie in America right now, but the success of Texas Chainsaw 3D has guaranteed a sequel is in the offing.

Also, the existing Texas Chainsaw 4 would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, starring Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger.

Texas Chainsaw 3D Review

By Eric Goldman

Ignoring every other film in the always tenuously-connected franchise – including the sequels, remakes and prequels to remakes – Texas Chainsaw 3D actually begins on the same day Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ended, as the Sawyer family (led by Bill Moseley as Drayton “The Cook” Sawyer, taking over for the late Jim Siedow) are confronted for what they did to Sally Hardesty and her friends.

One member of the Sawyer clan, a baby, is taken from the scene, growing up with adoptive parents and unaware of her lineage. Until, as an adult, Heather (Alexandra Daddario) is told she just inherited a home from family she never knew she had. Soon, a trip to Texas will introduce Heather and her friends to a cousin with a thing for chainsaws and wearing masks made of human skin. And things will get very messy…
