By Louis Bedigian, Contributor Over the past few months, media attention has shifted from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to Research In Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM). The assumption was that RIM could make a comeback and turn BlackBerry 10 into the next great mobile OS. With RIM shares now trading down well over 5 percent on Wednesday, it seems obvious that many traders were not impressed with BB10’s debut.

Analyst: Why BlackBerry 10 Won't Save RIM
By Parmy Olson Research in Motion will make a giant leap towards relevance on Wednesday when it unveils a new BlackBerry 10 smartphone and operating system. RIM showed Forbes a demo of the new-look interface earlier this month, and the software looked sleek, efficient and perfect for professionals. But can its much-hyped launch reverse a long-term decline that has beset Research in Motion in the last two years: a share price down by 73%, along with slimming market share and profits?

Phone Wars: As Apple Drops Will Samsung, Nokia, RIM, Or Lenovo Replace Them
By Rob Enderle, Contributor Apple’s weakness has become very evident this quarter with their gamble to step away from the screen size race clearly backfiring on sales. The drop in sales growth isn’t as significant as the increasing perception that not only is Apple no longer leading they can be beat and Samsung is currently doing the most damage with Nokia’s strengthening phone numbers adding to the perception that that Apple is vulnerable. RIM’s valuation has been strengthening in advance of their Blackberry 10 launch which, given they don’t have product in market, likely makes them a beneficiary rather than a cause of Apple’s weakening, and Lenovo came out of left field to dominate the Chinese market while everyone else was focused on Apple and the Western World.

RIM's Z10 Leaked: BlackBerry for the iPhone Era
The usually reliable EVLeaks has just released leaked press images of RIM’s BlackBerry Z10 handset, a device which some consider to be the company’s Hail Mary Pass as their financial situation has been on a steady decline for months. While these aren’t the first images we’ve seen of BlackBerry’s upcoming Z10 smartphone, they do appear to be the first official press images of the device which might be released as early as February 5th. The beleaguered RIM is pinning its hopes on its new BlackBerry 10 OS so it’s possible that the future of the company is riding on the success of the Z10.

RIM's mobile management software supports iOS, Android
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has announced new mobile management software that adds support for Apple and Android devices, but analysts say time will tell if the company’s new emphasis on bring-your-own-device (BYOD) will succeed.
RIM announced BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10 (BES 10) is available to download as of today. The product combines mobile device management (MDM), mobile application management and mobile security. Unlike previous versions, BES 10 enables BYOD with support for Android and iOS devices in addition to BlackBerry.
The decision to support non-BlackBerry devices “was really driven by our customers,” RIM senior director of enterprise product management, Jeff Holleran, told Computerworld Australia.

Dear Research In Motion, Licensing The BlackBerry 10 OS Would Be A Bad Idea
By Ewan Spence, Contributor Research in Motion would be happy to license their operating system to another manufacturer, says CEO Thorsten Heins in an interview with Die Welt (reported by TechCrunch. Really? Well that’s a bad idea right there. RIM may be many things, but they aren’t a Microsoft or a Google. Having their new BlackBerry 10 OS appear on rival handsets would bring RIM a huge amount of structural upheaval, for little immediate financial return and potentially damaging sales of their new handsets… handsets that need to re-establish RIM as a major player in the smartphone world.
