Here’s a joke: “It’s illegal to own Black folks… but you can rent some of them real cheap.”
This came to mind while listening to Al Sharpton state that “money can’t buy us”, regarding the GOP’s much touted Negro Recruitment, er, minority outreach program.
I also noted with my trademark smirk how progressive icon Cornell West routinely accuses Sharpton of having sold out to Obama– and not for free, I assure you.
Odd coming from a man whose career is funded by leftist largess to bully proprietors in the name of snivel rights- my nickname for civil rights profiteering.
Newsflash: Big Name Black Democrats are on the White liberal payroll. They don’t do it for free, nor should they, given the market share and political power delivered to Democrats on a silver platter.
Liberal Black Christian pastors from coast to coast pocket political love offerings from White backers who always remember Black folks at election time.
This has been standard operating procedure for decades; and perhaps Big Name Black Democrats are offended there’s no way to tap this projected GOP outreach windfall.
Expect moles secretly connected to Big Name Black Democrats to play what I call “Take The Money And Run From White Republicans.”
This con plays on White Republican obliviousness about who the real players are in a given Black community.
Some jack-leg preachers and Black Karl Roves team up to promise how they’ve got the Black vote on speed dial, all the while knowing we won’t presently vote GOP even if Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were on the ballot.
So I take Sharpton’s concerns about our being “bought” with a Kilamanjaro-sized grain of salt. Black folks taking Republican money sells us out no less than the Democratic dollar IV plugged into Big Name Black spokespersons’ veins for generations.
Whether Black Republicans rent as easily as their Democratic peers remains to be seen.
