Human Rights Campaign Apologizes For Censoring Undocumented, Trans Activists At Marriage Protests

By The Huffington Post News Editors

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) rights group Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has issued an apology for a pair of “unfortunate incidents” that occurred in the midst of large-scale marriage equality protests last week outside the Supreme Court.

Posted on HRC‘s website by Fred Sainz, the group’s vice president of communications and marketing, the statement expressed sadness for two events in particular. From Sainz’s post:

In one case, a trans activist was asked to remove the trans pride flag from behind the podium, and in another, a queer undocumented speaker was asked to remove reference to his immigration status in his remarks.

Behold the Same Sex Marriage Solidarity Meme

By Giovanni Rodriguez, Contributor I’m catching up with this late in the evening, but it looks like we have a new meme.  If your are on Facebook (who isn’t?), you will of course have noticed by now.  Quick summary from The National Journal, which for some reason has taken an early interest in this story: As the Supreme Court prepares for its second day of oral arguments concerning same-sex marriage, gay rights supporters are flocking to a viral image being spread by Human Rights Campaign: its logo. HRC initially asked people to make the graphic, which was specially modified for Tuesday’s hearings, their profile picture on Facebook. Pamela Chen, Asian American Gay Judge, Appointed To Federal Bench

By The Huffington Post News Editors

After more than thirteen years with the Department of Justice, Pamela Chen has been confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York by the U.S. Senate, making her the first openly gay Asian American to be confirmed as a judge on the federal bench, the HRC is reporting.

President Barack Obama has nominated four openly gay constituents to be confirmed to a federal judgeship with lifetime tenure and Bill Clinton nominated one during his presidency, which makes Chen the fifth. There are four other openly gay nominees currently impending in the Senate.

The Chicago native pledged fairness on the bench during her September 2012 confirmation hearing, the Washington Blade reports.
