2014 Ram ProMaster configurator reporting for heavy duty

Ram has brought the configurator online for all sizes of its new ProMaster van, known to the rest of the world as the Fiat Ducato. Destined to take on the new Ford Transit and Nissan NV, the ProMaster is available in three sizes – 1500, 2500, and 3500.

Once a size has been chosen, the world is your oyster. We could (probably) spend the rest of our day with this configurator and not repeat a build once. Each truck can be had in different styles ranging from windowed van to cargo hauler to cutaway truck, while buyers can also choose from a number of wheelbases and roof heights.

Add to that an options sheet that’s almost Porsche-like in length, and you get a van that can be completely customized to the needs of your business. Check out all three configurators at the following links: 1500, 2500 and 3500.

All-New 2014 Ram ProMaster Priced, Real Vans Start at $27,525

Ram has announced pricing for its new 2014 ProMaster, a line of work vans based on the front-wheel-drive Fiat Ducato. For $27,025, buyers will get a van with a cab and a cutaway chassis; prices for a complete van start at $27,525. So for just $500 more, consider that a bargain. With the choice of a standard gas engine or an optional diesel, three wheelbases, two roof heights, and four cargo-floor lengths, the ProMaster’s configuration flexibility should help it win fans, even if some buyers might be wary of a FWD full-size carryall.

The standard motor is a 280-hp version of Chrysler’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The step-up motor is a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel four-cylinder good for 174 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque; it operates through a six-speed automated manual gearbox.

Both engines are available in the full range of ProMaster vans. Wheelbases include 118, 136, or 159 inches; 90- and 101-inch roofs heights are available; and cargo floor lengths of 105, 123, 146, or 160 inches can be spec’d. All-wheel drive is not available.

The $27,525 mentioned above gets you a ProMaster 3500 with a 136-inch wheelbase, the low roof, and the gas V-6. From there, pricing is as follows:

3500 159-inch wheelbase: $27,930
3500 159-inch wheelbase, extended frame: $28,430
1500 118-inch wheelbase, low roof: $29,625
1500 136-inch wheelbase, low roof: $30,515
1500 136-inch wheelbase, high roof: $31,515
2500 136-inch wheelbase, high roof: $32,515
2500 159-inch wheelbase, high roof: $33,870
2500 window-equipped 159-inch wheelbase, high roof: $34,250
3500 159-inch wheelbase, high roof: $36,345
3500 159-inch wheelbase, high roof, extended body: $37,145

The EcoDiesel costs $4000 to add to any of the configurations.

While Ram has not announced fuel economy or any options information, the ProMaster model brings the total of big vans now available to four: the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Nissan NV, and the new Ford Transit. Ram is betting that the ProMaster will distinguish itself from the competition with best-in-class features that include cargo capacity, payload, and a low cost of ownership. That’s all well and good, but what will it look like with a Viking battle airbrushed on the side?

Official: 2014 Ram Promaster pricing starts at $26,030*

Looking to get back into the thick of things in the commercial van market, Chrysler has set the pricing for the Fiat Ducato-based 2014 Ram Promaster. When it goes on sale by the end of this year, the new Promaster will have prices that range from $26,030 for the Promaster 3500 chassis cab cutaway with a 136-inch wheelbase and topping out at $36,150 for the long-wheelbase, high-roof 3500 cargo van (*prices don’t include the $995 destination charge).

While pricing was released for a total of 14 build configurations (including the addition of a 2500 cargo van equipped with rear windows that was not previously announced last month), Chrysler has still not announced how much it will cost to get the optional combination of the EcoDiesel engine and the six-speed automated manual transmission and if it will be available in all styles. Anyone who has driven in Europe likely knows of the Fiat Ducato, the ubiquitous utility van that can be found on most any city street on the Continent. Now in its third generation, more than 4.5 million Ducatos have been sold worldwide. Official: 2014 Ram Promaster reporting for duty

We already knew Chrysler would be getting its own version of the Fiat Ducato for use as the 2014 Ram Promaster, but it was just a question of when and what changes would be made. Well now we know. Though far from conventional-looking, the new Promaster should give Chrysler a fullsize van that is more competitive than the old Ram Van and more affordable than the Mercedes-based Dodge Sprinter.

Chrysler says it made numerous changes to transform the Ducato into the US-friendly Promaster, and the biggest changes were made to the powertrains. Standard equipment on the Promaster 1500 is the widespread 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 rated at 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque paired, which, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, offers a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 11,500 pounds. Other models will get the 3.0-liter diesel inline four-cylinder producing 174 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, giving this version a GCWR of 12,500 pounds, and this engine is mated to a six-speed automated manual transmission.
