Christian Bale to Part the Red Sea?

Christian Bale is now reportedly in talks with 20th Century Fox to star in Ridley Scott’s Moses movie.

The upcoming film, titled Exodus, was originally scripted by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, but the project was recently made a studio priority after Dragon Tattoo scribe Steve Zaillian came on board for a rewrite. (The writer also worked with Scott on American Gangster.) According to Deadline, Fox hopes to get the ball rolling as soon as Scott completes work on his other film The Counselor.

This news comes hot on the heels of Steven Spielberg‘s departure from another Moses project, Gods and Kings, which is set up at Warner Bros. Life of Pi director Ang Lee is next in line for that one, although he’s yet to formally meet with the studio about it.

Dead Man Down Review

By Max Nicholson

From Danish director Niels Arden Oplev (2009’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and writer J.H. Wyman (Fringe), Dead Man Down is a gritty crime drama in which Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace star as strangers hopelessly drawn to one another by their mutual desire for revenge. We begin with Farrell’s character Victor, who has infiltrated a crime empire run by a ruthless kingpin named Alphonse (Terrance Howard) with the intent of making Alphonse pay for ruining his life. Soon, however, he meets Beatrice (Rapace), and Victor slowly discovers that she has unresolved rage of her own.

Although Farrell is a pretty good dramatic actor, his forte is his dark humor. We get whiffs of that throughout the first act, but as the mystery unravels, Victor becomes much more stoic and brooding, as does his counterpart Beatrice. In the context of the film, their performances speak volumes, particularly in what isn’t said. Farrell’s portrayal of Victor is understated and reserved, while Rapace channels her endearing persona from Oplev’s original Dragon Tattoo.

Craig May Get Cut From Dragon Tattoo Sequel

There’s a chance that Daniel Craig may not be back for The Girl Who Played with Fire, Sony’s long-planned sequel to David Fincher‘s retelling of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Fincher is still in early talks to reprise directing duties on the film and Rooney Mara is set to return as series protagonist Lisbeth Salander. While Dragon Tattoo did modestly well, Sony wants the sequel done for less than what its predecessor cost.

According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, “the biggest holdup isn’t Fincher’s involvement but star Daniel Craig‘s. The studio has options on Craig for two sequels, but the actor is said to want a pay raise, not a cut, in the wake of Skyfall grossing $1 billion worldwide. If Sony can’t bring Craig back to reprise his role as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, the sources say the studio could write the character out of the sequel. (A Craig source says negotiations have yet to commence but the actor wants to return to the role.)”
