Rewind This! is a documentary that explores the explosive birth of VHS, the way in which video rentals revolutionised the industry, and the ultimate demise of the format.
It features interviews with directors, producers, actors, collectors, bootleggers, traders, poster artists, rental store employees, cinema programmers and the like, and while the film ultimately lacks focus, there’s lots to enjoy, particularly if you are a member of the ‘Be Kind Rewind’ generation.
Director Jack Johnson starts proceedings in quirky fashion, journeying to a Flea Market in Grand Prairie, Texas, to follow a VHS aficionado as he trawls the stalls in search of action movies starring either Charles Bronson or Dolph Lundgren.
