Dr. Lixin Peng Named Vice President – Engineering, China Area Business Organization

COLUMBUS, Ind.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Cummins Inc. (NYS: CMI) has named Dr. Lixin Peng Vice President – Engineering, China Area Business Organization (ABO), effective April 1.

As Vice President – Engineering, China ABO, Dr. Peng will remain responsible for strategic planning and development of Fit-For-Market (FFM) products, engineering support for our customers and joint venture (JV) partners, functional excellence for Product Environmental Management (PEM), Engineering quality and Value Package Introduction (VPI). In addition, Dr. Peng will be responsible for strategic alignment of the engineering function within and between the Engine Business Unit (EBU), Power Generation Business Unit (PGBU), Distribution Business Unit (DBU) and Components Business Unit in China and globally.

Dr. Peng joined Cummins in July 2007, first as the Heavy Duty engineering leader in Columbus, Ind., and then as the China EBU Engineering leader before taking the role of Executive Director – Engineering, China ABO in 2011. Prior to joining Cummins, Dr. Peng was Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Shanghai Diesel Co., Vice President of Engineering of Advance Propulsion Technology Inc., Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)/design leader at FEV Engine Technology and Supervisor for Chrysler Canada.

Dr. Peng holds his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hunan University in China and a Ph.D. from McMaster University in Canada. During his career, Dr. Peng has won various international and national awards and owns a number of U.S. patents. Many of his studies have been published in professional journals.

Gino Butera Named Vice President, Managing Director and Cummins Africa ABO Leader

COLUMBUS, Ind.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Cummins Inc. (NYS: CMI) named Gino Butera VicePresident, Managing Director and Africa ABO Leader. Butera is taking over for Ron Somerville who announced his retirement late last week. The transition will begin in April, with Butera assuming full responsibility by June.

Butera served as the Executive Managing Director of the Asia Pacific distribution business since 2008. This region includes a number of strategically important, high growth Distribution Business Unit geographies including South Pacific (Australia / New Zealand), Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, China, and India. Under his leadership, the Asia Pacific distribution business has achieved over 1 billion dollars in revenue.

Prior to his current role, Butera has held a number of leadership and line roles, including the managing director of the South Pacific Distribution business, the CFO and Director of Corporate Services for the South Pacific ABO, and a number of finance roles in Australia and Columbus, Indiana. Gino holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Monash University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Guangxi Cummins Engine Company Celebrates Official Start of Operations with Completion of First Engine

LIUZHOU CITY, Guangxi Province, China–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Today, the first Cummins L9.3 engine rolled off the production line at Guangxi Cummins Engine Company Limited (Guangxi Cummins), the 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. (NYS: CMI) and LiuGong Machinery (Shenzhen: 000528), marking the official start of operations in Liuzhou, southern China.

The 9.3-liter engine is designed and built in China specifically for construction equipment to meet the demand of both LiuGong and other equipment manufacturers. The engine is available in multiple versions to meet various off-road emissions standards.

Eaton and Cummins Announce Powertrain Package for North American Heavy Duty Truck Market – New Offering Expected to Deliver 3-6 Percent Better Fuel Economy

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton and Cummins Inc. (NYS: CMI) today unveiled a new powertrain package for the North American heavy duty truck market that is expected to deliver 3-6 percent fuel economy improvements, lower preventative maintenance costs, and total lifecycle cost improvements. The new product integrates an Eaton Fuller Advantage Series automated transmission with new Cummins ISX15 SmartTorque2 ratings. The product will be available in the fall of 2013 for linehaul, regional haul and less-than-truckload applications.

Speaking at a media event today at The American Trucking Associations annual Technology & Maintenance Council meeting, executives from both companies said this product announcement is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Eaton and Cummins. The powertrain package promises to deliver a more fuel efficient, reliable and robust powertrain package.

The Eaton Fuller Advantage Series automated transmission will be offered as a small ratio step Over-Drive model with new Cummins ISX15 SmartTorque2 ratings; the ISX15 415 ST2 with torque of 1450/1650 ft-lbs, and the ISX15 450 ST2 with torque of 1550 ft-lbs /1,750 ft-lbs. Through a combination of hardware and software enhancements, the powertrain package benefits include:
