Centegra Health System Engages MedAssets for Total Cost Management Capabilities

Joins Growing List of Provider Organizations Seeking Company’s Expertise to Accelerate Cost Reduction Strategies and Improve Operational Efficiencies

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)– MedAssets (NAS: MDAS) today announced that Centegra Health System (Centegra), located in McHenry County, Ill., is among a growing list of healthcare organizations across the country to enlist the company’s total cost management capabilities and technology-enabled services to reduce costs and improve operational efficiencies.

According to the new, multi-year contract, Centegra has selected MedAssets as its exclusive group purchasing organization (GPO). The health system also will utilize the company’s Supply Chain Optimization services and Capital and Construction Solutions to pursue savings opportunities in the pharmacy and other supply categories, while enhancing the project and financial management of building a 128-bed hospital.

“MedAssets offered a holistic approach to utilize expert analysis and market intelligence data to reduce our total cost of care above and beyond the GPO,” said Michael Eesley, chief executive officer, Centegra Health System. “Centegra is expanding to meet the growing communities we serve including a third hospital in Huntley that was recently approved as the first new hospital in Illinois in 30 years. Ensuring efficiency and integration among our full healthcare delivery model is essential. Reducing waste is a high priority for us, and part of our strategic plan to prepare for the economic realities of healthcare reform. MedAssets is committed to helping Centegra drive financial improvement, and we feel as though they are advantageous partners. Together, we will take into account all the key factors that can optimize an organization’s operating performance and financial strength,” Eesley concluded.

Providers Seek Partners for Aligned Success

As healthcare providers across the country prepare for dramatically reduced reimbursement levels, greater risk and patient outcome accountability, MedAssets has seen an increased market demand for its Spend and Clinical Resource Management capabilities. In 2012, nearly 30 healthcare provider clients signed Strategic Sourcing and other cost management agreements with MedAssets to reduce operating costs. Of those new clients, 79 percent converted from their incumbent GPOs, and more than half have also selected to engage the company’s technology-enabled Clinical Consulting and Workforce Optimization services, as well as its Capital and Construction, Process Improvement and Procurement Solutions. Cancer Treatment Centers of America Expands MedAssets Relationship to Enhance Onsite Advanced Treatment Accommodations

MedAssets Capital and Construction Solutions selected to improve savings, transparency and collaboration on remodeling and expansion efforts across national network of state-of-the-art cancer hospitals

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)– MedAssets (NAS: MDAS) today announced that Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) has engaged the company to help drive cost savings for construction projects across its national network of hospitals. The new agreement to use MedAssets Capital and Construction Solutions builds upon CTCA‘s current relationship with MedAssets for Strategic Sourcing services, Charge Integrity and Reimbursement Integrity solutions to drive better operational and financial performance.

According to Kimberly Alvord, corporate director of Supply Chain at CTCA, expansion and remodeling efforts at each treatment center is in response to growing demand for new, additional services that address all aspects of treating complex and advanced stages of cancer. Each of the state-of-the-art cancer hospitals houses the latest treatment technologies and experienced clinical staff, while at the same time is designed to be warm and comforting.

“MedAssets offers a technology-enabled service that delivers a single solution for comparing and purchasing construction items, which will be invaluable in saving our team time, cost and energy as we enhance our facilities to better meet the needs of our patients and their families,” said Alvord. “Moreover, by centralizing buying decisions and utilizing expert analysis and market intelligence data, we expect to achieve operational efficiencies and significant financial improvement in our projects.”

Managing Projects across Multiple Facilities for Better Aggregation

With MedAssets, CTCA gains access to a cloud-based solution for enhanced visibility and financial control of construction and renovation projects across all stages—from planning and predictive analysis to management. The network plans to use the solution suite’s models to budget and plan for overall increased visibility and enhanced collaboration among its facilities.

“The increase in demand for healthcare facility construction in a time of unprecedented economic challenge makes it imperative to identify and avoid the common, yet costly mistakes organizations make before, during and after a construction project,” said Cheryl Stoddard, vice president, Construction Solutions, MedAssets. “MedAssets is pleased that CTCA has selected our solution as it works to achieve on-time and under-budget construction and renovation projects.”
