“Jack The Giant Slayer” led a quiet start to the weekend box office on Friday. The updated childhood classic opened to $7.7 million at 3,525 theaters. The movie, which stars Nicholas Hoult, has received mixed reviews from critics and a B+ CinemaScore from moviegoers. THR reports that “Jack The Giant Slayer” is on pace for a $24 to $25 million weekend. While this isn’t a meager number, the film had a production budget of $195 million.
Comedy “21 and Over” took the number two spot on Friday. The film made $3.3 million across 2,771 theaters on its opening day.
Horror flick “The Last Exorcism Part II” also opened this weekend. The film, starring Ashley Bell, made $3.25 million at 2,700 theaters on Friday. The movie serves as a sequel to 2010’s “The Last Exorcism,” which grossed $41 million domestically.
