NY mom accused of letting teens shoot BB gun out of car

A New York mom is accused of encouraging her teenagers to shoot the windows out of parked cars with a BB gun as she drove, MyFoxNY.com reports.

Susan Becker, 43, of Long Island was arrested Friday.

Suffolk County police say Becker bought a BB gun and gave it to her children. They say Becker’s 15-year-old daughter, her 13-year-old son and another teenage boy fired the BB gun as she drove, according to MyFoxNY.com.

Police are investigating more than 60 reports of damage to car windows in the Islandia, Hauppauge and Commack areas over the past two weeks.

2 young siblings die after being pulled from Long Island pool

Officials say two young siblings reported missing on New York’s Long Island have died after they were pulled from a neighbor’s pool.

Suffolk County police say a 911 call came in at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday to report that a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl went missing from a home in Central Islip.

Police say officers searched the neighborhood and eventually saw a shoe floating in a neighbor’s uncovered aboveground pool, which had blackish water.

Officers went into the 4-foot-deep pool and discovered the unconscious bodies of Ralph Knowles and Sharon Knowles.

The fully clothed brother and sister were taken to Southside Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

NY woman faked cancer to feed heroin addiction, prosecutors say

A Long Island woman faked cancer and sought donations from supermarket shoppers and others to support her heroin addiction, an indictment unsealed Wednesday alleged, and a prosecutor called the plot “a despicable scam.”

Brittany Ozarowski, 21, formerly of Selden, was charged in Suffolk County with 24 counts including grand larceny in the third degree.

Prosecutors said Ozarowski left donor jars at Nassau and Suffolk county businesses and hit up supermarket shoppers for money. She also scammed her father and grandmother, who sold her house and gave Ozarowski more than $100,000, District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

“This defendant perpetrated a despicable scam. … There was no cancer, no chemotherapy or radiation. All there was was heroin and more heroin,” he said.

Ozarowski’s attorney George Duncan said Wednesday he hadn’t yet seen the charges and could not comment.

Spota said small-business owners donated more than $600 in gift certificates and Ozarowski established a PayPal account and a website with a banner that pleaded, “Help Save My Life.”

“She told business owners that she was suffering from bone and brain cancer, that the disease was spreading to her thyroid and her stomach,” Spota said at a news conference. “She told some people that she just found out the brain cancer was inoperable.”

Spota said Ozarowski was eventually caught when a man she had asked for money became suspicious and asked for her doctor’s name, which she refused to provide. The man called the district attorney’s office.

Hundreds of cars stuck on Long Island Expressway

Police in New York say hundreds of cars have gotten stuck on the Long Island Expressway during a massive snowstorm and dozens of disabled motorists are still on the road.

Suffolk County police say cars began getting stuck Friday afternoon because weather conditions have been so bad. Authorities say vehicles are backed up and can’t pass one another, and mounds of snow from plows have made it difficult for them to exit the highway.

Police say disabled motorists remain on the road early Saturday, and officers are working to get them off the road and make sure they’re safe.

The Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway are both shut down in Suffolk County except for emergency vehicles.

Authorities say no injuries have been reported.
