The 2013 Peabody Awards were announced on Wednesday, and ABC News’ series on Robin Roberts‘ battle with MDS, CNN and NPR‘s coverage of Syria, and “60 Minutes” are among the winners.
The Peabody Awards are the oldest honors in broadcasting, and honor excellence in electronic media. CNN and NPR won the prestigious award for their coverage of Syria, one of the deadliest places in the world for journalists. ABC News won for its coverage of Hurricane Sandy.
The network also received an award for “Robin’s Journey,” a series of pieces about Robin Roberts’ struggle with MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, and her efforts to raise awareness about bone marrow donation.
