ADTRAN Expands Packet Optical Capacity by 8x to Achieve Best in Class

High-density Carrier Ethernet service delivery and transport module increases scalable reliability for cloud, mobile and video applications

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ADTRAN®, Inc., (NAS: ADTN) , a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced a significant expansion of its award-winning Optical Networking Edge (ONE) solution. The new single slot Carrier Ethernet module supports 8x10GE optical transport with Ethernet switching, and enables efficient, high-capacity access/edge to the metro core interconnect. The new module also expands the service delivery, aggregation and transport capacity of the Total Access® 5000, a 21 usable slot system, to more than 200Gbps per slot. This gives service providers an increased level of scalable reliability to more effectively respond to the demand for premium services.

With enterprise customers migrating to cloud services, mobile networks consuming more IP data than voice, and residential customers watching unprecedented quantities of videos online, the need for bandwidth continues to explode. As a result, access and edge networks are now required to scale from 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps to multiple 10Gbps with an easy path for future upgrades to 100Gbps. ADTRAN’s ONE solution suite integrates a right-sized packet optical solution with Broadband Access and Carrier Ethernet service delivery enabling seamless networking from access to core via wavelength, OTN or MEF-compliant Carrier Ethernet switching. This allows service providers the ability to quickly and cost-effectively deploy the premium services demanded by enterprise and residential customers regardless of the associated bandwidth requirements.

The new module, the Ethernet Transport Optical Switch (ETOS-10), is built upon the highly successful 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) service centric ETOS-1 and continues to deliver carrier-grade redundancy and protection for various applications. The primary features and benefits are as follows:

  • Expanded premium services scalability supporting the rollout of 10Gbps enterprise and datacenter services, 1Gbps 4G/LTE mobile backhaul services and 100Mbps residential broadband services delivery.
  • Reduced time-to-revenue via the increased network simplicity gained from the support of end-to-end multi-ring, mesh and subtended 10GE access rings topologies.
  • Increased quality of experience via reduced network latency and integrated advanced service level assurance (SLA) and services management toolset.

PMC Disrupts 100G Economics with Industry’s First OTN Processor Enabling Virtualization of Optical Network Bandwidth for Big Data

DIGI 120G Accelerates Deployment of Efficient and Dynamic OTN Networks

SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– PMC® (NAS: PMCS) , the semiconductor innovator transforming networks that connect, move and store big data, announced today the introduction of PM5440 DIGI 120G, the industry’s only single-chip OTN processor supporting 10G, 40G and 100G speeds for OTN transport, aggregation and switched deployments. DIGI 120G allows for the efficient sharing and dynamic assignment of network resources, enabling OTN networks to effectively virtualize optical network bandwidth to meet the elastic traffic demands of Big Data. This unprecedented level of silicon integration facilitates the most cost effective designs, engineering efficiency, and lowest power approach to OTN system solutions.

Optical transport networks play a critical role in providing the interconnect infrastructure required to efficiently and reliably deliver cloud-based services. Continued growth in mobile data traffic and the projected 3X growth in datacenter driven WAN traffic1 are the catalysts behind industry’s need for 100G connectivity to aggregate the increasing deployment of 10G ports from the metro edge. To unlock the full value of 100G networks, service providers are architecting their transport infrastructure to enable dynamic bandwidth allocation with granularity from 100Gbps down to 1Gbps, without interruption to network traffic, in order to ‘virtualize’ the optical network bandwidth.

OTN allows for flexible aggregation and switching from 1G to 100G

With today’s networks dominated by 1G & 10G services, traditional point-to-point OTN transponders do not efficiently map these service rates to 100G due to a lack of OTN multiplexing granularity to 1Gbps. PMC‘s new DIGI 120G supports OTN Transport, OTN aggregation and OTN switching. Multiservice OTN muxponders and OTN switching cards using DIGI 120G will enable efficient aggregation and grooming of lower speed services into 100G.

As the industry’s first OTN processor to support on-demand re-sizing of ODUflex from 1G to 100G, as well as 10G, 40G and 100G speeds, DIGI 120G allows OEMs to deliver a full suite of multiservice OTN switched cards for Packet Optical Transport Platforms (P-OTP) and muxponders for ROADMs. Numerous configurations are supported, including 12 ports at 10Gbps, 3 ports at 40Gbps or 1 port at 100Gbps. Reliance Globalcom Upgrades Trans-Atlantic FA-1 South Submarine Network to 100G with Ciena’s GeoMesh

WaveLogic-powered upgrade will serve critical New York to Paris trans-Atlantic corridor, enabling new high-speed, low latency 100GbE and OTN client services

HANOVER, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Ciena® Corporation (NAS: CIEN) , the network specialist, today announced that Reliance Globalcom, a global provider of managed network and communication services for multinational enterprises and carriers, is upgrading its trans-Atlantic FA-1 South submarine network with Ciena’s GeoMesh solution. This upgrade will help Reliance Globalcom to better address growing global bandwidth demand for cloud computing, video and other high-bandwidth services, along the critical trans-Atlantic corridor.

Key Facts:

  • Reliance Globalcom owns and operates one of the world’s largest and most advanced private submarine network spanning more than 73,000 kilometers. When combined with more than 200,000 kilometers of domestic fiber owned by its parent company, Reliance Communications, the combined global network connects over 40 key business markets across India, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the United States.
  • With Ciena’s GeoMesh solution (based on its market-leading 6500 Packet-Optical Platform powered by WaveLogic 3 coherent optical processors and optical bypass), Reliance Globalcom will have what is expected to be one of the first trans-Atlantic submarine networks capable of supporting OTN-based client services from OTU2 (10G) to OTU4 (100G). It will allow Reliance Globalcom to provide 100GbE services between continental points of presence (PoPs) – whether a large data center or a central office.
  • The network upgrade will be managed by Ciena’s OneControl Unified Management System, that provides multi-layer service management capabilities to enable streamlined service activation, robust fault management, and comprehensive performance monitoring, which results in optimal use of critical network assets, all the way from its New York PoP to its Paris PoP.
  • Ciena is also providing Reliance Globalcom with professional services through its Specialist Services portfolio, specifically for installation, integration, testing and support.
  • This deployment builds upon a long-standing relationship between Ciena, Reliance Globalcom, and its parent company, Reliance Communications. Over the past year, Ciena solutions have been used in several strategic capacity upgrades to support Reliance Globalcom’s submarine network, including a 100G …read more
