Peterbilt Enhances SmartNav System

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Peterbilt Motors Company announced new enhancements to SmartNav, its groundbreaking proprietary navigation and infotainment system. Now included in SmartNav are expanded audio controls and ten new virtual gauges. New standard virtual gauges include engine oil temperature, and transmission temperature.

“SmartNav is designed specifically for the trucking industry, providing drivers vehicle operational information, navigation and infotainment features,” said Bill Kozek, Peterbilt General Manager and Peterbilt Vice President. “These new features expand its capabilities and bring more information and value to the operator.”

SmartNav features a high-resolution, glove-friendly and scratch-resistant touch screen that allows drivers to easily and intuitively operate the system. SmartNav also offers important user interface capabilities and vehicle interface read-outs including audible and visual alerts and notifications, Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, vehicle diagnostics, and multiple entertainment options.

The expanded capabilities of SmartNav include dead reckoning, which helps maintain the truck’s location when positioned in areas where the satellite signal is blocked, such as tunnels and urban environments, and increased availability of typical audio functions while in motion. The list of new optional virtual gauges includes popular selections such as Air Filter Restriction, Fuel Filter Restriction, Suspension Load Pressure, Brake Application Pressure, Front and Rear Axle Oil Temperature, and an Ammeter.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Peterbilt Motors Company announces the availability of the new 2013 Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine. Since 1996 Peterbilt has been manufacturing trucks featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems solutions for over-the-road, regional and vocational applications.

“With growing demand for natural gas engines, we are pleased to add the Cummins ISX12 G to our natural gas lineup,” says Bill Kozek, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president. “The pairing of the dedicated natural gas engine with Peterbilt provides customers exceptional fuel economy with an environmentally-friendly, domestically-sourced fuel that helps lower operating costs.”

Based on the Cummins ISX12 diesel engine, the ISX12 G is both Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (ARB) certified. The ISX12 G will not require a Diesel Particulate Filter or a Selective Catalytic Reduction system. Available in August 2013, the new ISX12 G engine features spark ignition technology, a 3-way catalyst, and will be available with a maximum 400 horsepower and max torque ratings of up to 1,450 pounds.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Peterbilt Motors Company announced the availability of PreSet Plus hub systems as standard equipment on all Peterbilt Class 8 trucks. PreSet Plus hub systems are designed to improve serviceability and reliability of vehicle wheel ends.

PreSet Plus hub systems minimize service time and requirements. They also feature:

Peterbilt’s SmartAir System Enters Production

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Peterbilt Motors Company is pleased to announce the production availability of its SmartAirTM anti-idle cooling system. The factory-installed system helps reduce fuel costs and improves driver comfort.

“The SmartAir system is designed to maintain a comfortable rest space in hot climates without idling,” said Bill Kozek, Peterbilt General Manager and PACCAR Vice President. “This system has exceptional cooling capacity and delivers bottom line savings to customers through reduced fuel consumption.”

From an operator’s perspective, the system is easy to run and has the cooling capacity to keep the sleeper comfortable even in the harshest hot-weather climates. SmartAir has a 7,500 BTU/Hour cooling capacity and can operate up to 10 hours on a single charge.
