Official: Celebrate 60 years of Corvette by checking out these historical images

Following yesterday’s introduction of the C7 Corvette that shows the car’s future, Chevrolet has released a slew of images celebrating 60 years of the car’s past. First introduced in 1953, the Corvette has evolved into a global sports car that is likely to be the star of this year’s Detroit Auto Show.

General Motors has dug into its photo vault to give us a look at the Corvette starting with the C1 Corvette from 1953 right through the most powerful ‘Vette ever, the C6 ZR1. Be sure to check out the gallery of classic Corvettes, and then check out our coverage of the new C7. General Motors has also supplied a press release posted after the jump to give more information about each generation of the iconic coupe.

Breaking: Corvette C7 leaked on cover of <i>Automobile</i>

C7 CorvetteWe’re just days away from finally (finally!) being able to drop the full, steaming load of C7 Corvette information, images and video into your collective lap. And yet, the official reveal day is not quite here yet…

Thank the good lord, then, for poorly hidden magazine covers, and more sneaky shots of the new car. A car that is, we read, “The best Corvette design in 50 years” if the front page of Automobile is to be believed. At least from the smoke-engulfed posterior shot that we see here, the C7 does appear to have some very striking design work going on. Bold LED taillamps live in blacked-out surrounds, a crisply angled spoiler accents the high-belted rear end, and the expected quad-tailpipes look to mean serious business. The quarterlight behind the side windows is a bit surprising though, as it seems to be louvered or otherwise obscured in some way.

Look for glossy images of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette of your dreams very soon. In the meantime, tell us what you think of this latest image, in comments.

Days From Its Reveal, Chevy Teases The 2014 Corvette: Video

The official reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette happens this Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m., ahead of the Detroit Auto Show’s opening. In it’s fourth (and presumably, final) C7 Corvette teaser, Chevrolet shows a prototype going through the assembly line (which is a necessary step in validating each step of the assembly process).

While we don’t get to see anything close to the completed car, we do get a chance to see the fiberglass body shell and the aluminum chassis in the video. While we’re as curious as you are about the shape of the next Corvette, we really can’t wait for a chance to climb behind the wheel and drive it.

As Jonathan Andrews, body shop launch engineer explains, “every gram has to earn its way onto the car.” That a pretty good indication that all Corvettes, including the base model, will serve up noticeably better performance and handling than their current C6 equivalents. Whether that will sit well with those who buy Corvettes for image remains to be seen, but those of us with a passion for driving will surely appreciate the improvements.

For the latest on the 2014 Corvette, bookmark Chevy’s One13Thirteen webpage. We’re fairly certain the site will stream video of the C7’s reveal on Sunday evening, which promises to be far more entertaining than 60 Minutes.

Video: Lamborghini teasing 50th Anniversary model in video?

This new year is going to mark a lot of anniversaries in the automotive world, including the 60th year of the Chevrolet Corvette and 50 years since the introduction of the Porsche 911 and the Lamborghini brand. We already know Chevy is celebrating with the all-new C7 Corvette, and we’ve heard rumblings that Lamborghini might be planning a new model of its own.

Tucked in at the end of a great video highlighting the first 50 years of Lamborghini, there’s a quick glance of a shadowy car with Gallardo-like headlights. There isn’t much to go off of in this shot, but we do see that the front fenders are more squared-off than any other current model, meaning that it could very well be the 2014 replacement for the Gallardo.

Report: Is Chevy giving Beyonce a C7 Corvette during Super Bowl halftime show?

Could Beyonce really become one of the first people to take delivery of a C7 Corvette? After all, she reportedly only learned to drive two years ago. If The Detroit Bureau sources are to be believed, the pop star will be given the keys to a 2014 Corvette during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The idea isn’t too far-fetched despite General Motors vowing not to advertise during the upcoming game. The rumor is given more credibility after Chevrolet spokesman Mike Albano told The Bureau that, “We’ve got a history of being involved with the Super Bowl.”

The plan is reportedly to place a hand-built, one-off C7 on the 50-yard line during the halftime show, then gift the car to the singer. It’s a shrewd marketing move. GM gets its time in front of Super Bowl viewers without officially changing its plan to avoid buying expensive ad time during the game. Product placement during sporting events is old hat to GM. The company has parked its vehicles on the field during Olympic opening ceremonies at least once before.

Just remember Beyonce, take some precautions as a still-green driver with a powerful new car: Adjust your mirrors, re-position the seat and put on your seatbelt before putting keys in the ignition. Mostly though, watch out for jealous Corvette drivers.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Service Manual Images Leaked

The guys at Jalopnik have discovered several images posted on the Corvette Forum enthusiast site of the new Corvette C7, which all appear to be from a service manual of the upcoming American sports car.

The anticipation is steadily building as we await the Detroit Auto Show next month where there will be an onslaught of new vehicle reveals and releases including that of the highly anticipated Corvette C7.

Many of the design elements of what we see in the speculated service manual leaked images of the new C7 Vette, show us fresh body panels and new technology. Many of the images match to what some spy photographers have captured up to this point of the C7 out on testing grounds. Some will say that the design looks to have traits of current sports cars such as the Nissan GT-R, and maybe some hints at the Camaro. Either way, the new C7 is looking to be an stunning vehicle, good for some and maybe questionable for others.

What we do know, aside from the previously released details on the new V8 engine for the C7 Corvette, is that we cannot wait to get our hands on one when it hits the ground literally burning up the rear tires.

Leaked drawings of the C7 Corvette hit the web

Hope Santa’s got some coal left, because someone else has earned it for yet another holiday season leak. Alongside leaked shots for the 2013 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible and Mercedes-Benz CLA, a Corvette Forum member recently uploaded a number of drawings of the C7 Corvette that he says someone has been sending him. The post has since been removed from the forum, the original poster, “Blue Ox,” writing “the information I posted is less ‘public’ than was originally thought and… someone’s job could be in danger.”

There are no take-backs on the Internet, though. The drawings look to be from an owner’s manual or a service guide and show the coupe’s exterior, rear end and inside the rear hatch, then cover details of the cockpit, seats and engine bay. There’s a new steering wheel inside, and a large central screen with a new array of HVAC buttons underneath. Pilots will get to sit in new sports seats that finally appear to have the proper amount of bolstering for a Corvette.

The dash cluster that was teased in a video not long ago looks like it could be a central LCD screen flanked by analogue gauges for the speedo, water temp and fuel tank, not an all-LCD display. There will be a Track Overlay feature that tracks the car on a track and monitors speed, brake and throttle application, gear selection, G force and direction, lap time and steering angle, and it displays a graph for the Performance Traction Management. This will likely work with the (or is a display for) the Performance Data Recorder that is said to be able to save vehicle data, as well as video and audio, to an SD card.

Not shown in the photos but thrown into the discussion is Active Rev Match for cars equipped with manual transmissions, said to match engine speed to the next gear for both upshifts and downshifts. Last but not least, an Engine Sound Management system will alter the ‘robustness’ of the engine note via seven settings: Auto, Stealth, City, Tour, Sport, Track and Off.

There are just three weeks left until the C7 is revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. We wouldn’t mind leaving something left to surprise us on the official day, but we won’t be surprised if that doesn’t happen.

First 2014 Chevrolet Corvette to be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson for charity?

Something big is coming to the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ. You can already read the (mostly) complete roster of vehicles that will be up for grabs at the annual event, and each item on the docket offers complete information as to year, make, model and a full description of the item.

But then there’s lot No. 3016: Not a single bit of information is given, except that the vehicle is a Chevrolet, and that it’s a “piece of Chevy history.” All proceeds from this “special Chevrolet model” will be donated to the Center for Creative Studies, and the auction takes place at 8:30 PM on Saturday, January 19.

This wouldn’t be the first big model to be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson event. Back in June, the first production 2013 SRT Viper was sold for $300,000, and General Motors has historically used the event to auction off and even debut special edition Corvette models. Given the fact that the Viper auction netted just over $200,000 more than the car’s list price, a similar auction with the highly anticipated C7 Corvette could bring in some seriously big bucks.

We’ll be seeing the 2014 Corvette for the first time on January 13 – the night before the first press day of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and the Barrett-Jackson auction takes place just six days later.

Video: Chevrolet's latest C7 Corvette trailer focuses on fixing an old ail: the interior

Critics have long taken delight in bashing the Chevrolet Corvette for the sports car’s sub-par cabin execution, but the latest teaser for the C7 seems to indicate the next generation machine will bow with much nicer materials. The quick teaser video below shows workers whipping around massive swaths of leather, stitching hides together with contrasting thread and plenty of carbon fiber trim. This is all excellent news. The latest teaser joins a spate of videos showing snippets of the upcoming halo car from General Motors.

We’ve already seen what it took to bring the car from concept to reality and what the vehicle’s gauges will look like, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get our eyes on the finished product. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is set to receive its world debut on January 13 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Stay tuned. In the interim, check out the latest teaser video below below.
