The New Yorker last week ran a piece on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. A highly regarded college prospect before entering the pros, Sanchez has had the unfortunate distinction of having thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. He also has the distinction of having invented a play associated with him: the “butt fumble” – which is essentially when one drops the ball after running into…well, you get it. While the Jets general manager, offensive coach, and quarterback coach are gone after a dismal season, Sanchez remains. And if nothing changes, he will pick up $8.25 next year, even if he never picks up a football. So the difficult question for management becomes, do you play him or not? Are you willing to eat the $8 mn and start somebody else? Or do you stick with what you already paid for?
